The following has been received at the club. Sad news for those that know Pete.
There is an address at the end for those who want to send cards and messages for Pete which he will be able to read in what he accepts are his final days…

Sadly Pete has just been admitted to a hospice, where he will spend his final days – which are expected to be of short duration. He has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Pete has sent the following message to Essex Walker, which he would like to be distributed to all. He specifically stated he would like his words to be sent to John Constandinou (www.racewalkuk.com), Noel Carmody (Race Walking Record), his many Police race walking contacts, The Centurions, Ilford Athletic Club and he concluded with “and all others”. Obvioulsy there are not to be visitirs at the Hospice in our cuyrrent situation, but he stated that he would enjoy reading your messages in what he fully accepts are his final days. His message :

Hi everyone,
As some of you may be aware that Peter Ryan has been ill and diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and has been admitted to Woking Hospice for my end of life care. Send cards and messages to : Room 19, Woking and Sam Beare Hospice, Goldsworth Park Centre, WOKING, Surrey. GU21 3LG. Pete Ryan

His message is brief, but also says it all. His “and all others” remark clearly means you may forward this to others, and tell any you know who many not have access to emails.

I’m sure many will quickly be posting cards and messages as he’ll so look forward to them arriving.
