Hi all,
Another brief Essex County update :-
1. If by any chance we are back in competition action by August the 5,000m track champs is planned to be held during the “Miles of Miles” meeting at Chelmsford on Sunday 8th August. CV 19 situation and guidance on athletics meetings will be subject of on-going review and other races postponed if necessary.
2. As the Pleshey / Essex half marathon has now been cancelled the 2020 Essex Road Grand Prix has been shelved. If we are all back in race action by the first Essex Champs road race will be the Tiptree 10 on 11th October followed by the Chelmsford 10k on 15th November.
The Essex 5 mile champs confirmed as included in the Witham Boxing Day 5 on 26th December.
3. Essex League xc provisional dates (no venues yet) are :
Saturday 7th November 2020
Saturday 19th December 2020
Saturday 16th January 2021 (or 23rd January 2021 if the Essex Schools XC championships are on 16th January)
Saturday 13th February 2021
Saturday 27th February 2021 (subject to possible change as Essex 20 is the next day)
4. Essex xc relays still provisional for 3rd October but venue (Weald Park) still not available to confirm booking.
Update on IAC issues :-
a) Situation on subs for 2020/21 as per announcements that went out. Grant utilised to give all members a subs free year. EA competition fees still outstanding subject to EA agreeing reduced rate.
b) Unchanged – Martin confirmed ELVIS series cancelled for 2020. Individual race organisers will no doubt advise as and when they can if any race in the programme is allowed to take place CV19 permitting. Competition ban in place until 1st July so Hilly 5 scheduled for 15 July is not going to happen. UKA CEO made verbal statement that they do not expect any races to take place until September at the earliest.
c) Unchanged – London Marathon re-scheduled for 4th October, but current “insider” feedback is that at best it will be an elite race only.
d) Unchanged – Club Centenary in 2023 – no progress on finding potential publishers. Feeling is will need to be a 1999 to 2023 25 year addendum book rather than full 100 years. Agreed Centenary T-shirt a good idea. Also Gary Floate’s suggestion of a 100 x 1 mile relay against local clubs.
e) Earliest Cricklefields (and Ashton) track could re-open is 4th July, but this is very provisional.
f) Groups of 6 now allowed to meet up for a run subject to 2m distancing and all other recommended safety precautions. Stay safe / alert.
