“I spoke to John on his 60th birthday on October 7th. He was greatly looking forward to enjoying his retirement. I told him that he would be spending all his days training, the thing he loved most. We spoke of running the Essex Vets CC together at the end of November. I somehow think John will still be there. He will be enormously missed and never forgotten. A true gentle man.
