ESSEX CROSS-COUNTRY LEAGUE
Gloucester Park, Basildon
Saturday 26 October

The second round of the Essex Cross-Country League was held over the usual challenging course in Gloucester Park Basildon using a 3km lap which featured two stiff climbs. There was a good turnout from Ilford AC with encouraging results

The Senior Ladies race was over a shortened lap with 3 circuits totalling 7km.
Ilford had 9 runners in the race and were led home by Jordan Hinds in 23rd spot with 32 mins 05 secs. Supporting her were Alison Sale with 69th spot in 38 mins 15 secs and  Bree Nordin 82nd and 2nd in the F65 category with 39 mins 52 secs.
The scorers were completed by Pauline tester placed 92nd in a time of 40 mins 58 secs. Also in action were Shahnaj Begum (102nd ) Dianne Crisp (112th) Frieda Keane (125th) Launa Broadley (129th) and Julia Galea (130th ) 

In the league Ilford compete in division 2 and were placed 3rd in the match and are 2nd in the current table.

In the senior mens 9 km 3 lap race Ilford fielded an impressive 18 men.
First home for the club was Tom Gardner in 40th recording 31 mins 30 secs. Next over the line was Malcolm Muir in 59th in 32 mins 31 secs with Manuel Vigo 61st with 32 mins l5 secs. Steve Philcox placed 69th and was the 2nd finisher in the M55 age group with 33 mins 9 secs with Dylan Harrod 74th recording 33 mins.30secs. Josh Adler was the final scoring finisher for Ilford in 89th spot with 33 mins 54 secs. 

In the division 1 match the club were 6th and are 7th in this winter’s table.

Juniors

8 Ilford youngsters took on the tough hilly course at Basildon’s Gloucester Park.

In the U11s race , which had a massive field of 86 youngsters , Danilo Reina and Ewan McKinstry continued their great recent form to finish in 39th ( 6.36m) and 50th (6.40m) respectively. Excellent performances on such a tough course 

The U13 Boys race saw talented athlete Khalif Ali put in a solid battling performance ( on very little training) over the 3.3k course finishing in a 12th place (12.20m) followed by another excellent run from teammate Elias Furreedan , who continued his recent fine form, completing the course in 48th position (14.40m) in another large field of 82 athletes .

Debutant Hashim Khan unfortunately could not finish following an injury sustained on one of the tough hills

Lone U13 girls representative D.L. Majen-Akande produced another outstanding performance to finish in 38th place (15.31m) to continue her recent great form 

The U15boys 4km race saw Barney Perkins run a really competitive race finishing in 24th place (17.16m) in a large field of 83  competitors.

Best battling performance of the day went to U15G Hawaa Patel, who despite being unwell during the 4Km race managed to complete the course in 38th place(22.41m). 

In the U17’s race Samuel Crane came 9th in a time of 20:18, with Ryder Islam coming home in 14th place in 21:32

Well done to everyone on producing such good performances in the 2nd Essex X Country league fixture and on such a tough course

Ilford Runner Finishes Strong

Ilford Athletic Club’s newly retired member, Ray ‘Sparra’ Everingham, made a triumphant return to the trails, completing the Sapiston 10k in a respectable time of 1:18:35.
Despite facing stiff competition from a field of 80 runners, the Ilford athlete secured 58th place overall, earning the title of the first Ilford runner to cross the finish line.

The 10.8k race, organized by Run Beckland, took participants through the scenic Suffolk countryside, challenging runners with its varied terrain.
The Ilford runner’s performance showcased his endurance and resilience, proving that his recent retirement from work doesn’t mean the end of their athletic career.

Ilford AC Athletes Shine at the Chicago Marathon

Chicago Marathon

Ilford AC made a strong showing at the 46th edition of the Chicago Marathon, one of the world’s largest marathons with over 52,000 finishers. The race, part of the World Marathon Majors, saw three Ilford AC athletes take on the notoriously fast course, with impressive results.

Leading the way for Ilford AC was Sam Rahman, who crossed the finish line in an outstanding time of 2:47:41 which was just outside his personal best for the distance.

Danny Holeyman delivered a remarkable performance, smashing his previous personal best by a significant 6 minutes. Holeyman’s finish time of 3:01:05 was a testament to his hard work and dedication.

Completing the Ilford AC trio was Richard Woolterton, who finished in a very respectable time of 3:18:22.

Ilford AC’s performance at the Chicago Marathon was a source of pride for the club. The athletes’ dedication, training, and competitive spirit were on full display, and their results showcased the club’s strength in marathon running.

Loughton 5m Interclub Vets

The annual match for runners over 40 took place at Loughton on the Roding Valley Country Park on Saturday. The rain held off for the event but the mainly grassland course was very wet underfoot.

Ilford had a squad of four in action on the day, all performing well in challenging conditions.

In the men’s race Seb Parris placed 5th, in a time of 34:56 and Jim Tilbrook came home in 24th position in a time of 43:45

For the ladies race Alison Sale came home in 16th place in a time of 45:18 and Frieda Keane in placing 24th in 54:48 also grabbed herself a Silver medal in her age grouping

Tiptree 10 (10 Miles)

The Tiptree 10 has been awarded ‘the best road race in the Essex AA area’ as voted by running clubs 4 times since 2008 and offers a beautiful scenic course through the Essex village.

On Sunday 2 of Ilfords ladies represented the club, Alison Sale and Frieda Keane.
Alison was the 70th female to finish, and 21st in her age grouping, in a time of 1:27:03, whilst Frieda came home in 149th position, placing 15th in her age grouping, in a time of 1:40:46

Essex Cross Country Relays Champs
Brentwood
Saturday 12th October

On a very hilly course in Weald Park the Ilford teams excelled themselves., with 4 teams entered we brought home 4 Essex County medals.

Starting the day, over the 2 lap, 6k hilly course were the Female V60 team.
Julia Galea was first off in 41:45 before handing over to Diane Crisp who ran 37:03 to hand over the final leg to Pauline Tester. Pauline ran 34:21, which was the fastest race by a V60 female on the day and ensured a GOLD medal for the team.

The men’s V50 team were anchored by Stephen Philcox in a time of 23:58, handing over to Fabrizio Stefanoni for 24:24 before Malcolm Muir ran his usual gutsy race in a time of 23:31.
The combined time of 1 hr 11 mins 54 secs was over 90 seconds quicker than their nearest rivals as they brought home GOLD medals for the team.

Ilford AC entered 2 teams in the men’s V60 age grouping.
Terry Knightley’s 27:45, Steve Chissel’s 26:48 and Neil Crisps 26:58 was good enough to secure the A team SILVER medals.

Raymond Dzikowski’s 27:46, David Thomas’ 26:37 and Alan Pearl’s 29:09 was good enough to secure the B team Essex County BRONZE medals, meaning all 12 athletes  entered won county medals.


Chingford League
Redbridge Cycle Circuit
Tuesday 8 October

SENIORS

The first fixture of this winter’s Chingford League took place at the Redbridge Cycle Circuit at Hog Hill between heavy showers last week. The senior races were over the usual challenging course on the undulating circuit of 5km

The Ilford AC men’s team are in the second division and were led by Ronan Edwards, who is still in the U20 age group, who was in great form to set a new personal best of 16 mins 39 secs as he placed 3rd in the match in this difficult race. Next home was Chris King in 5th in 18 mins 16 secs and one place behind was Berekhet Berakhy with 18 mins 16 secs. Steve Chissell placed 26th with 21 mins 43 secs and Tarik Qirem came in 32nd with 22 mins 28 secs. Mike Perkins closed the scorers with 22 mins 39 secs..
Also in action were Steve Crane (36th) Jim Tilbrook (43rd)  and Rob Sargent (67th )

With the Ilford leading men performing so well the club finished as the top team in division 2 of the Chingford League

The Ilford ladies were promoted to the top league last season and found it tough in the top tier. Gemma Ellender was the first home for the club finishing 15th in the match with 22 mins 24 secs with Anna Crawley close behind in 21st with 22 mins 49 secs and Alison Sale recording 24 mins 48 secs. Shahnaj Crane placed 80th in 28 mins 25 secs and Frieda Keane came home 119th with 32 mins 11 secs. The team was completed by Julia Galea with 32 mins 46 secs for 115th 

In this first division fixture Ilford placed 8th.


JUNIORS


13 Ilford juniors braved the testing conditions producing some excellent performances.

U11 athlete Ewan McKinstry was first Ilford athlete home in 14th place posting an excellent time of 7.37m on the 1.9 metres course.
Newcomer Danilo Reina was next to finish in 28th place , continuing his ongoing improvement, clocking a time of 8.12m. Saif Crane completed the team in 47th position on his Chingford league competitive debut.

Ilford’s U13 girls he’d impressive races against older and more experienced opposition. D.L. Majen-Akande continued her ongoing improvement finishing in 14th place in a time of 8.40  closely followed by teammate Alicia Adams with an impressive run of 8.57m to finish 17th

Khalif Ali produced another outstanding run in the U13 Boys race finishing in 2nd place after an incredible second lap to record a time of 6.40 a great performance considering his lack of training.

Ever reliable and improving Elias Furreedan finished in 12 position recording a time of 7.48m.

Hashim Khan ran a consistent race in 33rd position clocking 8.42m narrowly outpacing teammate Daniel Guiba in 34th place recording 8.46m. Debutant Caleb Singleton ran a strong competitive race to back up his teammates in a great all round team performance.

U15 athlete Barney Perkins produced yet another impressive performance to finish 2nd in an impressive time of 19.20m on the hilly challenging 5km course. Barney was well supported by teammates Stephen Amoli in 17th place recording 25.50m and Ethan Guiba in 18th place with 26.04m. Both athletes enjoyed strong consistent races to complete a successful evening for Ilford’s Junior athletes.

Ryder Islam was the sole Ilford athlete in the U17M race and produced a really strong run to seal 5th place in a time of 18.39 over the 5km distance

Essex Cross Country League
Hainault Forest
Saturday 5th October 2024

The 2024/25 cross country season started on a sunny afternoon at Hainault Forest over Ilford’s usual tough course which featured a couple of muddy sections.

Ilford AC had a good turnout of 13 young athletes and twenty Seniors for the first league fixture.
For the youngsters, this was a big step for many of them to a higher level of racing and they all acquitted themselves well.

Competing in the league for the first time in the U11 race over 1.5km was Danilo Reina and Joshua Denning. Both boys ran strongly on a difficult course, Danilo finished 17th and Joshua 25th.

We had six athletes in the under 13s race over 3km.
The girls all stayed in sight of each other throughout the race and showed grit and determination. Iris Wan was a brilliant 20th, Drissialemoy Majen-Akande 22nd and Alicia Adams 24th. The boys raced at the same time with Khalif Ali just getting in the top ten in 9th, Elias Furreedan in 38th and Daniel Guiba 41st.

The Under 15 race was probably the most competitive race of the whole day. They also had the pleasure of the hard hills which the seniors would race later. Hawaa Patel came a promising 31st in the girl’s race and Barney Perkins (37th) and Ethan Guiba (54th) acquitted themselves well for the boys.

Finally, for the juniors we had Samuel Crane and Ryder Islam in the u17s, running over a 7km course. Ryder had a breakthrough performance coming 16th in a good class field, Samuel had a good season opener in 13th.

Leading the way for Ilford Senior Ladies in their race over around 7 km was Jordan Hinds in 24th place in 25 mins 12 secs with support coming from Alison Sale in 25th with 28 mins 37 secs and Bree Nordin recording 29 mins 59 secs for 71st. Pauline Tester came home 78th in 37 mins 03 specs.
Julia Galea completed the squad in 113th in 37 mins 03 secs.
The team compete in Division 2 this season and won the match.

The senior men raced over a course of about 8 km and Ilford were led home by newcomer to the team Manuel Caeiro Vigo in 37th place in 30 mins 34 secs with Steve Philcox 51st and 1st in the M55 category,
Next over the line in 31 mins 12 secs and Malcolm Muir 61st with 31 mins 45 secs. Seb Parris put in a steady run for 87th and 33 mins 25 secs with Dan Holeyman 96th with 33 mins 49 secs .
Joel Denning completed the scorers in 111th spot in a time of 34 mins 43 secs.
The Ilford men compete in Division 1 of the league and placed 9th in the match
Andy Catton placed first in the M70 grouping with a time of 41:53

Also running for Ilford in this race were::  Steve Chissell (122nd  35.49) Terry Knightley (153rd  37.31)  Bradley Brown (156th  37.50)  Mike Perkins (160th  37.01)  Alan Pearl (161  38.08)   Tony Young (195th  42.19)  Jim Tilbrook (196th  42.27) and Rob Sargent (229  52.42)  

Eastern A.A Inter-County 10k
Cambridge

This year’s winner of the Inter counties match were Essex, who included Ilford’s Jack Nixon, who finished himself in Second place to add a Silver medal to his Gold,  in a new Personal best time of 30 mins 38 seconds.

Vitality London 10k

Last weekend over 15,000 runners took to the streets of our capital city, for the iconic Vitality London 10k. Included in the line up were 7 runners representing Ilford AC

The race starts on the Mall, takes in such landmarks as Trafalgar Square, St Pauls, Horse Guards parade and Parliament Square before finishing in front of Buckingham Palace.

Leading the team home was Amin Koikai with an impressive 34:36 which placed him 93rd and 2nd in his age category.

Zuzana Sinalova led the ladies home with an impressive run of 42:38 which placed her 111th and 20th in her age category.

Billy Green was next home in a time of 50:56

There then followed 4 Ilford runners all finishing within a minute of each other, Sean Costello 57:35, Joe Ramen 57:52, Mandy Reid 58:11 and Pathrose Louis 58:39


Vitality Westminster Mile

The day before the 10k 3 Ilford runners took part in the Westminster Mile.

Stephen Philcox led the trio home in a time of 5m 20s to place 3rd in his age group, Alan Pearl was 6m 23s for 2nd in his age group and Julie Gillender 9m 55s for 11th in her age group.


Inaugural Berlin 5k 

2 Ilford athletes took part last Saturday in the Inaugural Berlin 5k, held the day before the Berlin Marathon.

Ryder Islam had a very successful outing, placing 42nd and 2nd in his age group, recording a Personal Best time of 18m 02s. Ladies Team Manager, Carlie Qirem, was in Berlin supporting a friend in the Marathon and jogged round with her for the 5k in 32 minutes


Ipswich Half Marathon

The Ipswich Half Marathon attracts over 10,000 runners, starting and finishing at Portman Road Stadium, home of Ipswich Town Football Club. Ilfords Jack Nixon did something Ipswich FC haven’t been able to do this season by actually winning the race in a time of 1hr 08m 03s.

Valentines park 2K

Ilford youngsters had a good turnout at the Valentines park 2K run held for athletes under 15 years of age.

Luke Thake took a very early lead and ran a very strong race to win in a new personal best of 7 minutes 5 seconds,

Luke was followed home in third place by his ever improving team mate Elias Furreedan also in a PB of 8 minutes 18 seconds.

Newcomer Ewan McKinstry showed great form and a glimpse of what is to come in the future with a great run of 8.25m to clinch 4th place 

Hawaa Patel was first placed female in a time of 8.29m

Ever improving Iris Wan put in another PB performance to finish 6th place in a time of 8.48m

Ilford sprinter Kenina Nkrumah turned her hand to the longer distance finishing 7th in a very credible time of 8.43m excellent for a first attempt at the longer distance.

Josh Denning achieved a Personal Best for the distance in a time of 8.57m despite missing the start of the race , finishing in 8th place 

Future Ilford AC youngsters Chloe Chissell and Archie McKinstry took on the course accompanied by their dads and finished in times of 12.26m and 14.13m respectively.
