Ilford AC were represented at race No.2 of the 12-event 2014 Enfield Walking League, which was a 5 Miles race around 5 laps of a traffic-free circuit inside the town’s King George V Playing Fields on a mild Saturday afternoon. The contest didn’t get off to a good start for Ilford’s Walking Captain STEVE UTTLEY as he slipped on a tight spiral staircase at the dressing room on his way to the start line. Essex and Eastern Counties Indoor Championships – 8th and 9th February 2014
Many Ilford athletes competed in the annual Essex and Eastern Counties Indoor Championships which commenced over two days on both the 8th and 9th February. The star showing came from Gabriel Yiadom who ran his way to the top of the podium for Essex with a personal best time of 7.31 in the under 17 men’s 60m. Amazigh Laoudi proved to be the athlete of the day in day two as he completed his 400m and 800m double with an Essex county silver medal in the under 20 men’s 400m (52.68 pb) and a gold medal in the latter (2:09.36 pb). Essex Cross-Country League Epping Forest Saturday 8 February The final leg of this winters Essex Cross-Country League has held in Epping Forest , where the recent poor weather turned the course into a quagmire of liquid mud. The adverse conditions led to the organisers shortening the courses for the races. Ilford AC were again fielding weakened teams due to injury, illness and a busy weekend of races and their line up for the senior ladies 6.5km event was just 2 competitors. Jenni Sheehan put in a good run in the mud to come home 28th in 30 mins 05 secs and Nicola Hopkinson again showed a battling performance to finish 35th in 31m 47s.
