Neringa Aidetyte
Ilford AC Life Member Neringa Aidietyte, age 33, is set to become the first Ilford AC member to appear in 2 Olympics (London 2012 & Rio 2016). In London she competed for her home country Lithuania in the 20 Kilometres’ Walk which was held along The Mall. From 61 starters of whom 55 finished, Miss Aidietyte came 39th in 1 hour 34 minutes & 1 second. Much later the Ilford AC athlete was promoted to 38th position after a higher-placed competitor was disqualified retrospectively. She’s been selected for Lithuania in the same event at Rio later this year. When selected in 2012 she became Ilford’s 5th Olympian after Phyllis Perkins (800 metres Rome 1960), Fergus Murray (10,000 metres Tokyo 1964), Wilbert Greaves (100 metres hurdles, Moscow 1980) and 20 Kilometres walker Roger Mills at those same games.
Miss Aidietyte was a Bethnal Green resident and popular Ilford AC member for 4 years, during which she appeared in local races, before returning to Lithuania in 2013 when offered a full-time place in her Country’s National Athletics’ Squad.
