DOUBLE WIN FOR ILFORD AC WALKERS The Southern Area 20 Kilometres’ race walking championships were held around 12 flat twisting circuits of a public park in Enfield on a sunny but blustery Saturday afternoon.It was a remarkable triumph for FRANCISCO REIS who, for a second successive Saturday afternoon opened up a huge lead right from the off. He was never headed and soon after midway achieved a rare feat of lapping the entire field. Orion Forest Five – ELVIS Race 2 On a fine Saturday morning over 230 entrants gathered for this five mile off-road race through Epping Forest, the second round of the East London Interclub five Series (ELVIS). Ilford AC put out a team of 23 and had a highly successful morning sweeping the team awards and winning four individual trophies. Heading home the squad was Malcolm Muir taking second in a rapid 27mins 58secs, while Spencer Hempsted was in 4th with 28m 22s winning the 1st M40 trophy. FOUR IN A ROW – AND IT’S GETS BETTER! Ilford AC sent a strong squad to the annual Moulton 5 Miles Walk on a testing “out-and-back” in rural Suffolk countryside north east of Newmarket. On a cool overcast Saturday, perfect for athletics, it was Ilford’s Francisco Reis who took the race by storm sprinting away from all rivals to enjoy a big advantage by the turn. The gap was needed as a quality athlete was after him in former Welsh Senior Champion Mark Williams of Tamworth AC, one noted for producing his best work over the closing stages of races.
