“Just from a slightly different perspective, John was my best friend from school when he joined Beal in the 6th form and was best man at my wedding 30 years ago. I always thought he would marry before me but he never did. Married to athletics, I think, but a good guy. We knew John well as a great friend, his Mum – still going at 95 – and sisters. Went to the Olympics with John for 1 day in 2012. Very sad news. No more injuries. Simon Kane.”
