Not sure there will be many who would know or remember Phil, but just
in case could you circulate that he passed away last week after a
lengthy period of ill health.
Funeral is at 1.30 at the Forest Road Crem, Hainault on Tuesday 25th.
Phil joined the club around 1960 and like Pam was initially a sprinter
who worked his way up to running marathons. In the early 70’s he
turned his hand to coaching and, influenced by Frank Horwill,
introduced lots of innovative training for Ilfords MD runners – hill
running, circuit training, yoga and pilates. As well as coaching
myself for a few years he coached Derek Coates, Gordon Stewarrt, Dave
Williams and many others.
Andy
