Last weekend England Athletics hosted the London Regional Volunteer Awards at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, bringing together volunteers, clubs and supporters from across the region to celebrate the incredible contribution made by those who give their time to athletics and running.
The evening recognised outstanding achievements across a range of categories, including Club of the Year, Unsung Hero of the Year, Unsung Project of the Year and Services to Athletics and Running.

Ilford AC were represented by Ernie Forsyth, who out of many candidates was honored to win the 2026 Unsung hero of the year award.

Ernie Forsyth has dedicated nearly four decades to Ilford AC, helping shape one of the club’s most successful periods of youth development. Through coaching, team management and volunteer leadership, he has supported hundreds of young athletes and helped expand participation at all levels. His tireless work has contributed significantly to the club’s growth and sustainability. Ernie’s passion for athletics, combined with his commitment to helping young people reach their potential, has left an enduring legacy that continues to benefit athletes, families and volunteers throughout the club.
