HAROLD WOOD 5km

The 6th round of the Elvis series this summer was held over a 1 lap multi terrain hilly in Harold Wood Park and the adjacent Poges Wood 

Leading the way for Ilford Ac in this race was Steve Philcox in 11th as he kept his good form going in 19 mins exactly and took the prize for 1st in the M50 category. Next home was Dyfan Garmon in 21st with 19 mins 40 secs and Dan Holeyman recorded 20 mins 48 secs for 28th. Ryder Islam came in 32nd with 21 mins 26 secs and one place behind was Dave Thomas who claimed the prize for 1st   in the M60 group in 21 mins 33 secs. The scoring 6 was completed by Steve Chissell in 38th recording 21 mins 52 secs.

The Ilford team finished 4th in division 1 of the competition and are 3rd in the table for the season

In 20th place in the ladies event Alison Sale led the Ilford squad placing 20th in 25 mins 20 secs to take home the prize in the F60 category. Next in was Dani Thomas, who is improving in her first year with the club, in 26th with 26 mins 13 secs  and Natalie Crisp recorded 26 mins 23 secs for 29th. Jenni Sheehan was 38th in 27 mins 20 secs and Rachel Halpin placed 47th in 28 mins 03 secs. Bev Thomas closed the team with 29 mins 06 secs for 56th.

In the match the Ilford team were 4th in division 1 and remain 4th in the current league standings

Harrow

The men’s vets team travelled to Harrow for the last match in the league on Monday.

Ilford and London Heathside were tied on 24 points meaning the team finishing highest on the evening would go on to represent the league in the end of season finale. 

Michael Osunsami came down two age groups to compete in the 200m as the M35 athlete finishing fifth in 29.24s.

Same Malekout won the M40 category in 26.27s.

Chris Scott was second in the M50 race in 26.82s and won the 800m in the same age group in 2.17.94.

James Lambden was third in the 200m as M60 and was in the same position for the long jump with 3m 45.

David Butler covered the M70 category finishing third in the 200m in 38.03s, first in the 800m in 2.54.56, third in the long jump with 2m 03, fourth in the javelin with 13m 77 and unfortunately did not record a distance in the shot.

Manuel Vigo in the M35 category covered the 800m clocking 2.13.52 for third. In the 3000m he finished fourth in 10.00.81.

Berekhet Berakhy came down to the M40 category for the 800m placing second in 2.18.66. His time of 10.12.24 earned first place as M50 in the 3000m.

Steve Chissell competed as the M60 athlete in the 800m finishing fourth in 2.41.90. In the 3000m he finished third in 11.56.01. With his last legal throw he finished fourth in the javelin with 16m 70. He also ran as a non-scorer in the 200m finishing in 32.83s.

Henry Ricketts also ran as a non-scorer finishing in 30.08s.

The 4x200m team of Manuel, Sam, Michael and Chris finished an exciting relay by pipping the lead team of Enfield and Haringey at the line and holding off Barnet 

The final results showed that London Heathside won the match ahead of Ilford by 140 points to 138 and will go ahead to the season finale.

Barnet

The young athletes finished their league season with some excellent performances at good facilities in Barnet.

The highlight was probably the last event of the day in the u17 4x100m relays. The development of both teams has been excellent this year. The men won their race against good competition in a time of 44.16 again beating the club record. The ladies came third in their race in a brilliant time of 51.95.

The team had 5 victories in scoring events from Daniel Okereke, Andre Mullings-Roache and Max Andrews. Daniel set PBS in and won all his three U13 events (100m 12.52m, 200m 26.04 and 4.93 in long jump). Andre won B string U13 long jump in 4.34m and performed well other the hurdles and long jump. Finally Max won the u15 high jump with a jump of 1.60m. He also gained PBs on the day in the 100m (12.40) and Long jump (4.95m)

Three athletes made their competitive debuts. Zahira Campbell Thomas shows real potential in the u17 throws. Her 19.47m in the discus gained her second place. For the u15 girls Alexandra Kyriakou shows promise and versatility in the shot, long jump and 300m while U13 Daniel Nzurike also shows versatility in the sprints and shot.

There were also multiple PBs on the day. In the middle distance there were best over 800 for Drissialemoy Majen-Akande (3.00.97) and Iris Wan broke 6 minutes for the first time in the 1500m (5.50.75).

There was some great jumping on the day, Bineta Keita improved her triple jump with a distance 7.73m having only tried the event for the first time a month ago. In the high jump Amelia Clive set another brilliant best of 1.40 and Ethan Guiba jumped a new best of 1.25m. Finally Troy Harris jumped a superb 1.60m for the u17m men and also threw a PB in the shot put.

The number of throwers in all events this year has been refreshing to see with lots of events covered. There were bests on the day for Oluwadarasini Daramola in the Javelin, Sofia Crane in the discus and a brilliant 18.06m by Daniel Guiba in the u15 javelin.

Finally the sprint squad again showed their development. Victoria Ananwa and Marisaa Osas-Bavis really had great days both scoring 3 bests in their events and also competing in the relay. Victoria ran 13.11 in the 100m, 27.88 in the 200m and jump 1.30m in the high jump. Marissa also jumped the same height and ran 13.24 for the 100m and 45.43 in the 300m. There were also bests on the day for Kenina Nkrumah (48.87 in the 300m) and Ava Skipp (13.97 in the 100m)

For the male sprinters Jaydan Roberts Edwards broke the magic 11 seconds with 10.99 in the 100m and also set a best in the 200 (22.16). He now looks forward to the national championships. Leron Adjei has also had breakthrough season and ran a best of 22.93 in the 200m here. There were also bests for Jayden Mcdermott (61.01 in the 400m), Joshua Babalola (11.89 in the 100m), Matthew Ayers (12.13 in the 100m and 24.81 in the 200m) and Damien Amaniampong-Kwarteng (51.31 in the 400m)
