Ilford Vets took to the track for the first match of the track and field season on the evening of Monday 11 May at Lee Valley.
Due to unavailability and the odd event not being covered, the Men’s team performed well to finish fourth on the evening.
On the track Steve Uttley and Steve Crane won the V35 and V50 walks over 2000m in times of 11.56.54 and 12.00.08.
Henry Ricketts came down age groups to cover V35 sprints placing fifth in both 100m and 400m in 13.63 and 68.70s. He also covered the V50 high jump clearing the entry height of 1m for sixth before running the 400m.
Sam Malekout won the 100m in the V40 age group in 12.6. The V35 hammer distance of 12m 99 placed fifth.
Chris Scott suffered cramp in the V50 short sprint finishing in 14.93 for ninth place. Still feeling the impacts of cramp in the V50 400m he placed third in 63.28.
James Lambden competed over 100m as the V60 athlete and placed seventh in 15.39. He came down age groups to cover the 1500m in the V40 category and his time of 6.14.43 placed him seventh. Also competing in the V60 hammer his distance of 12m 06 achieved sixth place.
Mike Perkins also came down age groups to cover the 1500m as V35 to place sixth in 6.12.87.
Richard Woolterton competing in the 1500m as the V50 athlete finished third in 5.25.21.
Neil Crisp finished third in the 1500m in the V60 age group with a time of 5.39.68.
Andy Catton covering both ends of the V70 track events finished third in the 100m in 19.33 and second in the 1500m in 6.37.75.
The relay team of Richard, James, Henry and Sam brough the baton home in 57.86 for sixth place.
Anna Crawley and Launa Broadley represented the ladies. Launa in the V50 category placed fourth in 21.73 over 100m and over the long jump, her distance of 1m 28 placed her fifth. Anna in the 1500m comfortably won the V35 category and the race overall in 5.22.67.

Quadrathon
4 Ilford AC Junior athletes took part in the Quadrathon competition held at Basildon Sporting Village
All athletes were asked to complete FOUR separate disciplines earning points based on their performance
U 10 athlete George Moore kicked off proceedings with a Standing Long jump of 1.29 metres earning him 49 points
400m in 1m 30.8s for 78 points
50 metre sprint in 10.10s for 28 points.
His final event which was a “Howler” projectile throw of 8.60metres earned 23 points leaving George with a total of 178 points for his successful competition
U12 athletes were headed by top performer on the day Luca Palimaru who totaled 275 points

75m sprint. 10.8s. 110 points
Long jump. 3.21m. 68 points
Matthew Baker
600m. Sprint. 2.20m. 30 points

These really encouraging performances earned Matthew a great total of 211 points
Matthew Guiney completed the team with the following totals

75m Sprint. 12.90s. 62 points
Long jump. 2.93m. 56 points
With a total of 186 points Matthew had a very successful day
Quadrathon events are a great test of athletes abilities over various disciplines and all 4 Ilford athletes showed great promise and team spirit with their performances which bodes well for their futures in athletics.
