OLYMPIC PARK 5km (ELVIS)
Wednesday 18 June

The latest fixture in this summer’s ELvIS series was held on a hot evening in the Olympic Park in Stratford. There was a large entry of over 400 for this popular event, including 34 runners from Ilford AC

Leading the way for Ilford AC running a personal best time of 17 mins 34 secs was Josh Adler for 14th place. He was supported by Steve Philcox in 20th and 3rd in the M50 category in 17 mins 49 secs and Chris King with 18 mins 08 secs f0r 29th. Close behind in 32nd was Malcolm Muir with 18 mins 15 secs. Dave Thomas was first in the M60 group  and 57th overall in 19 mins 38 secs and one place and three seconds behind was Joel Denning, who closed the Ilford scorers.

In the match Ilford were 3rd and remain in that position in the current standings

First home for the Ilford ladies was Jordan Hinds in an excellent 5th spot in their event in 19 mins 41 secs One place back also running well was Anna Crawley in 20 mins 17 secs. Gemma Ellender finished 18th with 22 mins 34 secs and Carlie Qirem came home in 23 mins 25 secs for 23rd. Natalie Crisp came in 30th in a time of 24.09 with Alison Sale closing the scoring team in 33rd in 24 mins 25 secs

In their contest Ilford were 4th and are 3rd in the current league table.

ESSEX 5m ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS
June 20th 2023

The Essex  5 mile championships were held on a fast two lap course in the picturesque Essex village of Pleshey.

Ilford AC had 12 runners representing the club, and brought home two Essex County medals

First home for the club, continuing his great success this season was Stephen Philcox in 26th place in 29:27 which gained him a Gold medal in his age grouping. Next home was Sam Rahman in 33rd place in 29:51 followed by Dyfan Garmon in 42nd place in 31:10 who completed the men’s scoring team which finished 11th on the day. Dave Thomas was Ilfords other medal winner finishing in 66th place in a time of 32:39 which gained him a Bronze medal in his age grouping.

Alison Sale was first female home for the club, placing 47th in the female race in a time of 40:13.
Next home was Dani Thomas in 52nd place in 41:12. The female team was completed by Dani’s mother Beverley Thomas in 46:20 for 68th place.

Also competing for the club on a hot night were Samuel Joseph31:17, Danny Holeyman 32:25, Terry Knightley 33:28, Tarik Qirem 35:58 and Alan Pearl 38:37

Mile of Miles
Chelmsford

Last Saturday saw the annual ‘Mile of Miles’ Essex Champs event, held in Chelmsford.

Ilford AC had just the one entrant, Malcolm Muir, but he came away with an Essex Bronze medal, in his age grouping, running a fantastic time of 5 minutes 17.9 seconds

The youngsters had another record breaking day in the third fixture of the season. Forty five athletes achieved a total of forty two personal bests and a record points score for sixth place on the day. Many thanks to team manager Ernie for organising such a large group of athletes.

The team had 5 victories in scoring events from Daniel Okereke, Jaydan Roberts Edwards, Damien Kwarteng-Amaniampong and James Houghton. Jaydan continued his great form in 2025 with victories in the u17 100m (11.21) and 200m (22.79) of which the 200 was a personal best. Daniel also sprinted brilliantly to win the u13 100m in style (13.26) and then return to set PBs in 200m (27.26) and come 2nd in the long jump. Damien won his debut u17 400m in style and probably got the biggest cheer of the day. His time of 52.81 shows great promise for the future. James finally showed it’s not all about sprinting with a victory in the u15 800m in a personal best of 2.13. He also showed his versatility with a best of 8.10m in the shot and a good run in the 300m.

Four athletes made their competitive debuts. Amelia Clive showed versatility and talent with 30.85 in the 200m, 2.40 in the 800m and a brilliant 1.35m in the girl’s u13 high jump which put her 2nd on the clubs all-time list on her debut. We had 3 new sprinters in the u17 men’s 100m Kiran Ozigbo (12.97), Chris Toussaint (13.52) and Zechariah Osawonyi (12.02). Kiran also ran the 200m in a good 26.15.

There were also multiple PBs on the day. For the u13 girls Drissialemoy Majen Akande PB’d in all 3 events, 100m (16.74), 1500m (6.08) and Long jump (3.03m). For the boys Elijah Muirhead jumped a best of 3.55 in the long jump and ran a best of 31.80 in the 200m. Zackariah Gayle (15.16) and Antoni Sroka (15.83) both ran bests in the 100m, long jumped and Zackariah also ran a best of 34.59 in the 200m. Andre Mullings-Roache came second in the long jump (4.34) equalled his PB in High jump and ran a new best of 13.63 in the hurdles. In the middle distance there was another great run of for Hashim Khan in the 800m (2.35) and a solid performance by Danilo Reina in the 1500m. Danilo then showed the benefit of trying field events throwing best of 16.13 in the javelin and 9.31 in the discus.

For the u15’s the PBs kept rolling in. In the 100m all set their best times, Olatoye Oguntoye (12.53), Max Andrews (12.62), Daniel Guiba (15.60) and the girls Oluwadarasini Daramola (13.62) and Yeva Zholob (14.04). Olatoye also ran a best in the 200m (25.56) and Max equalled his excellent PB of 1.65 in the high jump. Daniel missed out in the high jump but threw a new best of 16.58 in the javelin. Oluwadarasini also ran a best of 28.40 in the 200m and threw the javelin, while Yeva ran the 300m. Ilford had their usual strong throwing performance from Sophie Burrow in the hammer (30.70) and bests of 17.97 in the discus and 7.05 in the shot. Sofia Crane continued her Hammer improvement with a best of 22.76 while Evelyn Bexigas Soares also threw the shot and javelin. In the 1500 boys both Barney Perkins (4.50) and Khalif Ali (5.00) both set new bests. Barney’s 3rd place was a really mature breakthrough performance. For the girls Iris Wan showed her usual determination to finish just outside 6 minutes. In the 800 Elias Furreedan and Ethan Guiba both ran bests of 2.43 and Elias also ran the 300m and competed in the long jump. Finally Hawaa Patel showed a return to form with 2.40 in 800m for 4th place and 1.25 in the high jump.

Again the biggest group of athletes were in the u17 age group. There were good performances in the 100m from Kelson Avebaum (11.86) (PB), Leron Adjei (11.86), Adam Idoura (12.69), Renee Chissell (13.59) and Jasmine Shaer (14.37). Adam set a best in 200m of 25.97 while Renee threw a new best in the Javelin of 21.77. There was other success in the throws, Kenina Nkrumah set a new javelin best of 23.18 and Troy Harris threw 35.55 in the Javelin and 8.27 in the shot put on his first attempt at the discipline. Fabio Reina, Robert Stanciu and Luke Thake all helped the team by throwing the discus, Robert got the best distance with 13.63m. Robert set a new 1500m best of 5.34 in the same race as Fabio. Luke set yet another best in the 800m of 2.13 and has more scope to improve. Nora Nzurike returned to action with an excellent 7.89 in the shot for a PB and 3rd position. Versatile teammates Azaria Penny-Feather and Osawhese Suma threw the discus and also jumped bests on the day. Azaria with 4.23 in the long jump and Osawhese with 1.35m in the high jump. Brian Domfe-Bonsu has great promise in the jumps, he jumped 5.69 in his first long jump of the season and ran 25.57 in the 200m. Matthew Ayers continued his return from injury with 57.53 in the 400m just off his recent best.

All age groups then returned to compete in relay events. A really enjoyable day!
