Ingatestone 5
The Ingatestone 5 as an annual charity race, raising money for Ingatestone Boys Club.
The race was founded by Ilford Legend Howard Williams. Howard sadly passed away in 2017 but Ilford AC have maintained strong links with the race by providing a team to administer the on the day entries and results service.
Leading the way for the club was Dyfan Garmon coming home in 8th place and third in his age grouping, in a time of 29 mins 27 secs, finishing not too far behind in 12th place was Richard Morris in a time of 30 mins 18 secs. The team of 3 was completed by Steve Chissell in 35th place, who’s time of 34 mins 16 secs gained him 2nd place in his age grouping.
The men’s team finished 3rd on the day.
Also competing for the men on the day were Tarik Qirem in 58th place for 36 mins 01 secs and Sparra Everingham in 47 mins 50 secs for 176th place.
The women’s team were led home by Dianne Crisp, who placed 42nd in the female standings in a time of 44 mins 57 secs. Dianne was followed by Frieda Keane in 50 mins 53 secs for 65th place and Julia Galea in 53 mins 02 secs for 77th place.
The women’s team placed 9th on the day.

Sexagenarian wins Double Gold
Ilford’s club record hammer thrower, Wesley Clarke won double gold at the recent British Masters Athletics Championships held in Derby. His first gold came in the M60 Hammer Throw where he hurled the 5kg implement 42.46m for a personal best. His second gold came a week later in the rearranged M60 Weight Throw competition held in Burton owing to Derby’s outside cage being faulty.
Clarke hurled the 9.08kg implement a disappointing 14.22m having injured his back during warm up.
Krystle Balogun gained a Silver medal in the British Masters W35 200m.
Her time of 26.32 seconds, was just three hundreds of a second behind the winner.
Wesley and Krystal, along with 2 other Ilford AC athletes, will now be representing Great Britain at the European Masters Athletics Championships being held in Madeira next month.
