Three Ilford AC athletes took part in Marathons last weekend

Manchester Marathon
Sunday 18th April 2026

The Manchester marathon was held last weekend.

The race was held over the usual fast flat course from the Old Trafford cricket ground running into the city for a short loop before heading out to Altrincham and back to the finish at the cricket stadium.

Ilford’s sole entrant was Richard Morris who ran a solid 2 hours 56 minutes 08 seconds for a new pb over the distance.

Boston Marathon
Monday 20th April 2026

Further afield two Ilford AC athletes represented the club at the Boston Marathon on Monday, which was Patriots day, a holiday in Massachusetts.

The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon, making its debut in 1897 just one year after the first modern marathon was run at the first Olympic Games in Greece and attracts over 27,000 runners each year from across the globe

The course is a challenging point to point run from the town of Hopkinton, to the centre of the city in Boston 

Sam Rahman ran an even paced race to achieve a new pb of 2 hours 46 minutes 29 seconds and was followed home by Danny Holeyman who was very pleased with his time of  3 hours 08 minutes 21 seconds
