CHINGFORD LEAGUE
Epping Forest
Saturday 17 January
The 5th round in this season’s Chingford League was held over a 2 lap 8km course for the senior race in Epping Forest. The course was muddy following the recent heavy rain and featured two hills per lap with 120 metres of ascent on each lap
The Ilford AC senior men raced in division 1 of the league and were led home by Manuel Vigo in a fine 15th place in a time of 35mins 09 secs with Steve Chissell next over the line in 73rd with 41mins 34 secs. Bradley Brown came in 77th in 41mins 50 secs. Neil Crisp completed the squad recording 43 mins 47 secs in88th.
Not fielding a complete team resulted in 11th place in the team match and are in the same spot in the league table.
The Ilford Ladies are in division 2 and first home was Natalie Crisp showing good form in 13th place in 48mins 58 secs while Alison Sale also had a good run for 16th in 50mins 39 secs and was the first home in the F60 category. Next in was Jenni Sheehan with 55mins 14 secs for 24th and Pauline Tester finished 26th in 56mins 08 secs. Completing the team were Dianne Crisp 33rd in 59.40 and Frieda Keane 39th in 65.14
The team were 5th in this fixture and are 9th in the current table.


JUNIORS
Orion Harriers held the 5th race of the Chingford league series on a testing muddy course in Epping Forest
21 Ilford youngsters took on the tough course and produced some excellent performances
First to take on the difficult course were the U11s over a 2km distance
Olivia Spink produced another fine run finishing in FIRST place clocking 8m 44s which keeps her in a strong position to win the overall individual competition. Next to finish was younger sister Rose Spink with a great run of 10m 20s . Phoebe Rice continued her recent improvement closing the team with another improved run of
11m 38s
U11 teammates Stanley MacDonald and Matthew Guiney continued their recent good form with runs of 9 minutes for Stanley and 10m 21s for Matthew
Ilford’s only U13B Danilo Reina ran an excellent race to claim 6th place in a good time of 8m 40s to continue his very consistent season
U13G D.L. Majen Akande produced a season’s best run in 8th place recording 9m 50s and teammate Jiya Gill continued her impressive improvement with a time of 11m 31s
U15B team saw a great all round team performance with debutant Zakaria Choudhury placing second in a great time of 18m 24s.
4th place was taken by teammate Barney Perkins with a determined run of 20m 40s. Next home in a season’s best run was Elias Furreedan claiming 5th place in a time of 22m 21s . Caleb Singleton was next finisher producing a fine run in 10th place with 25m 14s
Teammates Daniel Guiba and Aryan Gohil both had fine runs finishing in 11th and 12th places respectively with times of 26m 31s
and 28m 27s
U15G teammates had another brilliant team performance with ever improving Alicia Adams leading them home with a season’s best run of 25m 32s in 3rd place. Iris Wan claimed 5th place with a typically determined run of 27m 57s after recovering from an early fall. Closing the team in 6th place was Hawaa Patel recovering from a recent injury but producing a powerful sprint finish overhauling 2 rivals clocking 27m 50s and greatly improving the team score.
U17s star Fabio Reina remains among the favourites to win the overall individual series title following another great win in a time of 17m 27s . Ryder Islam continued his recovery from recent injury to claim 4th place with a strong run of 20m 37s .
Improving runner Robert Stanciu ran a season’s best performance to claim 9th place in 24m 56s and teammate Ethan Guiba claimed 10th spot in 26m 06s both runners earning valuable team points.

Sunday 18th JanuaryOn Sunday Two intrepid Ilford Athletic Club Athletes tackled the extremely Hilly and Challenging Benfleet 15 Miles Multi-Terrain Race. Held over the waterlogged and boggy Thames Estuary Trails and on a route that ran from Hadleigh via Leigh-on-Sea out to Canvey Island and back again with over 760 fellow brave runners and finished with a steep climb to the finish line.The first club finisher was Anna Crawley in 2 Hour 09 Minutes and 27 Seconds for 142nd position. She was followed by Terry Knightley in 2 Hours 19 Minutes and 19 Seconds for 216th Place and was 4th Male Veteran Over 60.
FRED HUGHES 10 MileSunday 18th January
The Fred Hughes 10 Mile race is held on the rolling country lanes of Bedmond in St Albans, Hertfordshire. This year Malcolm Muir was Ilford’s only entry and ran a fine race to finish in 149th place in a time of One hour Six Minutes and Fifty Seven seconds
