Press Report 1st July 2025
Southern Athletics League
Woodford
Ilford’s athletes worked hard to finish 5th in the 2nd Southern League fixture.
In the sprints Krystle Balogun ran in both the A string 100m, (12.77) and the A string 200
(26.02) coming 4th and 3rd respectively. In the B string 100 Rachael Obeng (13.47) finished
4th, and the B string 200 saw Stacey Kwarteng-Amaniampong finish 4th as well (28.27). On
the men’s side Donnell Lucky-Oligie finished 4th in the 100m (11.63), a placing he replicated
in the 200m B string, finishing 4th again (23.81). Jaydan Roberts-Edwards also finished 4th
in the A string 200m (22.49). Male non-scorers in the 100m were Zecharaiah Osawonyi
(11.87) and Junior Aminu (12.68), all strong times.
Zecharaiah also ran in the 200m as a non-scorer in a fast time too (24.25). Female
non-scorers for the 100m were Victoria Ananwa (13.23), Marissa Osas-Bavis (13.39), and
Bineta Keita (14.56). In the non-scoring 200m Racael Obeng (28.42), and Marissa
Osas-Bavis (28.89) were strong too, and show the strength in depth that Ilford has in the
sprints.
In the 400m, James Thake worked hard to finish 4th in the A string, (53.06) and Dylan
Harrod also finished 4th in the B string (54.21). On the women’s side, it was one better, with
Jordan Hinds finishing 3rd (62.55) in the A string, and Renee Chissell 3rd as well (66.84) in
the B string, 1/100 of a second ahead of 4th. Non-scoring Jayden McDermott ran a strong
time (63.00), while Luke Thake ran a very impressive time (58.53), showing great potential.
In the 800m the ever present duo of Jordan Hinds and Anna Crawley were on hand to place
well in their races. Jordan finished 3rd (2:23.30) in the A race and Anna finished 2nd in the B
race (2:33.83), a new PB for her. For the men Ronan Edwards (2:02.82) was 4th in the A
string, while Dylan Harrod was comfortably 1st in the B race(2:01.49). Non-scorer James
Thake pushed the pace for a fast time too (2:02.76).
In the 1500m, the welcome return of Alex Richards to the track for Ilford saw him finish 3rd in
the A race, (4:06.03) while Ronan Edwards won the B race. (4:20.38) On the women’s side
Jordan Hinds was 2nd in the A race, (5:03.66) while Anna Crawley was 3rd (5:22.06).
Non-scoring Steve Chissell ran with great spirit too (5:52.17).
For the 3000m the assured presence of Anna Crawley was again seen, and she finished 3rd
(11:13.73). This represented another PB for her. In the B string Pauline Tester finished 5th
(14:49.14). For the men, Joshua Adler gradually progressed through the field to finish 4th in
the A string (9:44.60), while Samuel Crane battled through the unpleasant wind and heat to
finish 3rd in the B race (9:55.20). For the non-scorers Fabio Reina in his first race at the
Southern League was highly successful with a strong time (10:29.05). Ryder Islam returned
from a short break from training to register a good performance on (11:04.11), while the
ever-determined Bradley Brown ran a pacey time (11:51.35) to continue his good form.
In the 400H Rhys Edwards ran another strong time in the A race for 4th (67.51), while
Jayden McDermott performed brilliantly in his debut in the event for 2nd (72.39). Its longer
counterpart, the 2000 Steeplechase saw Rhys again finish 4th (7:06.65), while Joshua Adler
finished 3rd (7:15.50). Malcolm Muir was a non-scorer; the only non-scorer of any club in the
steeplechase. His gutsy performance (8:06.07) shows that Ilford has many options in this not
always a coveted event.
In the field events the Ilford team were noted by their unusually comprehensive coverage of
the events, a product of many athletes being willing to help the club outside of their strongest
events.
In the high jump Azaria Penny-Feather was 5th in the A string (1.20m), and Bineta Keita was
5th in the B string (1.15m). On the men’s side Troy Harris was 5th in the A string (1.50m),
and James Thake was also 5th in the B event (1.20m).
In the pole vault, Sam Malekout made his return to the Southern League, and finished 4th in
the A string (2.05m), while the highly experienced Peter Whiting was 4th (1.10m).
The women’s long jump saw helpful contributions from Stacey Kwarteng-Amaniampong,
who finished 6th (3.89m), and Bineta Keita also finished 6th (3.37m). On the men’s side
Jaydan Roberts-Edwards jumped an impressive distance to finish 4th (5.47m), and so too
did Brian Domfe-Bonsu, who finished 3rd (5.17m). The men’s triple jump saw Brian jump
well again to finish 4th (11.93m), while Rhys Edwards finished 3rd in the B string (10.80).
The throws saw several individuals compete over multiple events with some very strong
performances.
Coach Craig Burrow helpfully stepped into the pit and the circle, finishing 5th in the shot putt
A string (8.88m), 4th in the discus A string (27.83m), and 2nd in the hammer B string
(23.78m). Wesley Clarke was vital to Ilford’s efforts, and finished a brilliant 1st in the hammer
A string (35.67m). Sam Malekout was on hand again to finish 3rd in the B string of the discus
(27.30), 4th in the B string shot putt (7.70m), and 3rd in the A string javelin (37.70m). Troy
Harris was an impressive 3rd in the Javelin B string (30.77m).
On the women’s side, two of Ilford’s sprinters helpfully competed in the shot putt. Krystle
Balogun was 6th in the A string (5.59m), and Stacey Kwarteng-Amaniampong was 5th in the
B event (5.37m). In the discus Omotola Sadare was an impressive 2nd in the A string
(27.97m), while Victoria Ananwa was 6th in the B string (8.51m). In the Hammer Azaria
Penny-Feather finished 6th in the A string (15.02m). In the Javelin Rennee Chissell finished
2nd in the A string (21.47m), and Anna Crawley finished 6th (7.47m).
In the relays Ilford finished 5th in the men’s 4x100m (46.72) and 4th in the women’s 4x100m
(53.92), while in the mixed 4×400 both the A team and the B team finished 2nd (3:50.18 and
4:14.65); a great end to the day in what was the final event.
Finishing 5th puts Ilford 14th in the table of 18 clubs, two places above the relegation zone,
but without yet the certainty of safety. This means all is to play for at half-way in the Southern League
