SCVAC match 2 Stevenage
The Men’s vets team travelled to Stevenage on Monday 9 June for match 2 of
the four match ‘Southern Counties Vets Athletic Club’ programme.
Unavailability and illness meant that the team needed some last minute
changes to cover events.
Track events started with the 800m where Chris Scott came down age groups
to compete as V35 placing fifth in 2:17:0. Chris also ran the 200m as V50
finishing second in 27.5s and in the V50 high jump placed sixth with a PB
of 1m 25
Steve Chissell coming down to the V40 age group placed fifth in the 800m
with a PB of 2:44:3. He also ran the 3000m as the V50 athlete placing sixth
in 11:55.1.
Malcolm Muir competed as the V50 athlete over 800m. His time of 2:28:3
secured second. Coming down to the V35 for the 200m, he placed fifth in
32.4s and was third in the 3000m as the V50 athlete in a time of 10:20:7.
James Lambden in the 800m as the V60 athlete finished fifth in 3:01:5. He
also covered V50 long jump which was scheduled at the same time. His
distance of 3m 68 placed him fifth. In the 200m his time of 33:8s achieved
third as the V60 athlete.
David Butler covered the V70 age group for the 800m placing second in
2:53:7. In the 200m he was third in 38:7s and was sixth in the discus with
11m 77. Coming down to the V60 age group his time of 12:06:6 secured
fourth.
Peter Whiting in field events covered V60 discus and V50 hammer achieving
distances of 20m 73 (sixth) and 16m 17 (ninth).
Team Manager, Henry Ricketts filled in for the V40 age group over 200m
where his time of 29.4s secured fifth. In the V35 long jump, third was
achieved with 4m 37 and in the V35 high jump the clearance of 1m 30 placed
fourth. In the V50 discus, 23m 63 took sixth place.
Andy Catton, in between officiating duties ran as a non-scorer over 3000m
and covered the distance in 13:57:0.
The evening closed with a 4 x 400m relay. The team of James (81.5s),
Malcolm (67.6s), Steve (72.3s) and Chris (61.6s) carried the baton round in
4:43:0 for seventh place.
The team finished third in the evening behind London Heathside and St
Albans.
The next match is Monday 7th July at Lee Valley.
Essex County 5,000m Track Championships
Ilford AC enjoyed success last Wednesday evening at the Essex 5,000m County Championships, picking up 3 medals.
Pauline Tester won Gold F50, Jack Nixon won Gold in the M40 and Malcolm Muir won a Bronze medal in the M50
The following night in the SEAA Champs Dhanusshan Ponnambalam placed 6th place in the Shot put with a PB of 12.36m, which was a club record for an U15 athlete.
