Hainault Forest
The 4th match of this summer’s Elvis series was held on a challenging course on the trials around the Hainault Forest Country Park. As Ilford AC were staging the fixture many of the club members were involved in the running of the event so the club team was smaller than usual but there were still 21 in action.
The Ilford men were led home by Steve Philcox in an excellent 7th spot, which won him the M50 category, in 29 mins 09 secs. Manuel Vigo was also in good form placing 11th with 29 mins 20 secs and Tomas Krukauskas came in 14th in one second under 30 minutes. Next home was Dyfan Garmon with 30 mins 06 secs for 17th and Sam Rahman was 19th in 30 mins 30 secs with Chris King closing the scorers in 26th with 31 mins 45 secs.
In the match the team were 2nd and are currently 3rd in the season’s table
Also running well in the race was Dave Thomas who won the M60 grouping with 33 mins 46 secs for 37th overall
Gemma Ellender was best for Ilford ladies finishing 8th female with 37 mins 38 secs with Alison Sale 11th in 39 mins 4 secs. Dani Thomas crossed the line in 41 mins 39 secs for 20th spot and Dianne Crisp recorded 45 mins 43 secs in 38th. Bev Thomas was next home in 50th with 49 mins 15 secs and Julia Galea completed the team in 56th in 51 mins 42 secs
Ilford were 4th in this match and are joint 3rd in the league standings

BILLY GREEN MAKES CAPITAL GAINS
The London 10k is one of the largest 10k’s in Britain attracting over 14,000 runners.
The race takes runners through Central London, traffic free, and takes in Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, The London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
En route the runners pass several bands and large union jacks draping the streets.
Billy Green was Ilford AC’s sole entrant this year, and whilst never really troubling the leading pack, finished in a respectable time of 51 minutes 38 seconds

SCVAC (Southern Counties Vets Athletic Club) match 3
Lee Valley
Ilford Vets team made the journey to Lee Valley on the evening of Monday 7 July for the penultimate event in the four match season.
Multi eventer Sam Malekout competed in the M35 triple jump (9m 57), discus (27m 03), javelin (32m 44) and 100m (12.99s) placing 2nd, 4th, 1st and 4th respectively.
Team Manager, Henry Ricketts covered the M40 100m (13.68s) and M50 javelin (23m 76) and triple jump (8m 63) for 3rd, 4th and 3rd in each discipline.
Chris Scott in M50 disciplines over 100m (13.24s) and 400m (59.15s) achieved 3rd and 1st place.
Malcolm Muir also came down an age group to cover the M40 400m (67.62s) and went back to his regular M50 category for the 1500m (4.52.52). He placed 5th and 2nd respectively.
Steve Chissell covered the M60 400m (72.33) and 1500m (5.39.39) for 2nd and 3rd in each event. He also competed in the M50 javelin as non-scorer throwing 16m 58.
David Butler as the M70 athlete covered the 100m (18.53s) and 400m (84.54s) for 3rd in both distances.
Michael Osunsami came down age groups to run the M35 400m (64.89s) for 4th.
James Lambden placed 3rd in the 100m for M60 athletes in 15.32s. As a non-scoring triple jumper he achieved 7m 49.
Manuel Vigo (4.45.39) and Dyfan Garmon (5.04.26) debuted over the M35 and M40 1500m for 3rd and 6th respectively.
Andy Catton also ran the 1500m completing the distance in 6.36.39.
The medley relay team of Michael, Henry, Sam and Chris (200m, 200m, 400m, 800m) finished 3rd in 4.23.28.
The non-scoring team of James, Steve, Malcolm and Manuel finished in 4.39.94 for 5th position.
Over the match Ilford were pipped to first place by London Heathside who scored 5 more points.
Scores are now equal going into the last match with both teams on 24.

The final match is in Harrow on Monday 28 July. Realistically between Ilford and London Heathside the team finishing higher on the evening will be going to the end of year final on 21 September in Oxford.
