Watford Open Meet 1st April
Three Ilford members travelled to the first track open of the season at the popular Watford venue. Shamil Mohamad had an excellent cross country season and performed well in his first track event over 1500m. He settled into the pack for the first three laps and took the race on at the bell finishing with an excellent 4.11.10. Samuel Crane also had a useful season over the cross and raced the 3000m in an excellent new PB of 9.12.60. Finally Ryder Islam who had run a couple of half marathons in the last month also competed over the 3000m and was pleased with a time of 10.19.03 for another personal best.
Battersea Park Top Flight 5k 4th April
Two runners were out early at Battersea Park looking for spring fast time on a flat course. The race was part of the run through series put on before the main races for men and women capable of running under 17 minutes. Samuel Crane was pleased with a personal best of 15.55 breaking 16 minutes for the first time. Josh Adler, now a second claim athlete after his move to Bristol also ran well recording a 1 second best of 16:38.
Woodford Open 11th April
Six club members competed at Woodford this weekend in an early season track open. The best results were probably in the 400m with Jordan Duncan showing good early season form running 52.01 in far from ideal conditions. Also in the 400m making his debut over the distance was Aron Berhe. Aron recorded an excellent time of 55.43 and clearly has more to come. From the younger age groups Andre Mullings-Roache ran an excellent 14.17 in the 80m hurdles while Dhanusshan Ponnambalam in the shot and Max Andrews in the high jump were at little of their bests but will benefit from competition experience. Finally Fabio Reina put his winter training to good use winning his 1500m heat in a new PB of 4.43.77.
St Clare’s 10k
Essex
The St Clare Hospice 10k starts and finishes at the Hospice in Hastingwood, Essex, tackling a route along roads through the beautiful Essex countryside and raises much needed funds for the Hospice.
Ilford Julia Galea is a regular at this event and was pleased with her time of 1 hour 4 minutes 26 seconds which placed her 19th in her age grouping on the day.
