• Tate and Lyle Young Athletes Meeting - Newham 28th August 2005

     
    Some of Ilford's youngsters took part in the annual Tate & Lyle Young Athletes Meeting @ Newham & Essex Beagles track (Macmillan Stadium) on Sunday 28th August. (Open Meeting)

    This meeting allows youngsters to have a go whatever there ability and includes a few races for the u/11's, which otherwise is not possible in the normal track season.

    U/11's were represented by Ashley Lewis-Shodeinde (8 yrs). She rang a very good 75m race to come home in 3rd place, 8th overall in a time of 12.47s. She also ran the 600m and jumped a distance of 2m 87cm in the long jump. Jordan Akisanya rang the 600m and won in a time of - 2min 18sec. This was matched with an excellent run in the 75m with a winning time of 11.39sec. His younger brother Isaac (8yrs) also ran the 75m and finished in the top 3, competition definitely there between the brothers. The last youngster to participate was Torgon David, he took part in the shot putt and did remarkably well with a 3rd place distance of - 4m 62cm. Well Done to them all, future is certainly bright for them all

    In the U/13 Boys the day must go to Jordan & Isaac's brother Aaron. He ran well in the 100m for 2nd place in a time of - 13.8sec but eclipsed that in the shot putt. Having not really doing much of this before, in fact it may be one of his first times doing this event he won it in fine style with a putt of - 8metres exactly. Further excitement was to follow as it was confirmed that this putt was in fact a CLUB RECORD. The previous record of 7m 33cm had stood since 1979, so over 25 yrs, FANTASTIC. Possibilities of Aaron taking part in the Pentathlon @ the Essex Champs next year. Jerrell Alleyne was it continuing fine form winning both the 100m & 200m respectively. Alex Richards is coming back to his best form running his best 1500m time since the Essex Champs in May with a 2nd place time of - 5m 13sec. Andrew Townsend was competing in his first event since joining and came just outside the medals in the shot putt with a distance of - 5m 40cm, this is however his best put even better than in training.

    U/15 Boys saw two athletes competing. Osi Nzeako came home in 2nd place in the 100m with a time of - 13.0sec and he won the long jump with a leap of - 5m 01cm. Bakr Al-Akku was just pipped to the post in the 200m even though given the same time was hundredth's in it, time of - 24.8sec. He also ran the 400m and finished 1st with a time of 55.9sec. U/17 Boys Gull Hassen Ditta rang
     the 100m and also competed in the long jump doing well in both.

    Aimee Jones was the only representative in the u/13 girls (her last but one competition before she goes upto the u/15. She ran a cautious 800m but was able to finish just ahead of her nearest rival in a time of - 2m 43sec. In the long jump there was more success coming 2nd with a distance of - 3m 87cm.

    The U/15 Girls had 4 athletes. Rachel Giwa ran well in the 100m coming 1st in a time of - 13.0sec and threw the javelin a distance of 15m 90cm for a 3rd place. Sarah Kigozi also competed in the 100m and finished 3rd in a time of - 13.6sec, whilst also participating in the long jump. Lydia Hall came 2nd in the High Jump with a clearance of - 1m 33cm, ran a good 200m and won the 1500m. Finally Laura Townsend's consistency late on in the track year was there again to see doing well in the 200m, running a time of 28.6sec to come home in 3rd place. 

    Good day was had by all and some good performances for so late on in the season.
