Ilford's new recruit Vince Hehir proved to
be the dark horse of the field as 25 runners contested
Ilford AC's yacht handicap 5 mile race held on the paths
and tracks of Hainault forest on Wednesday evening.
Hehir, proprieter of Ilford Pub ,The Black Horse,
demonstrated it was not all beer and skittles as he
showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels
finishing the course in a time of 40mins 15 secs (41.01
handicap time).Fastest runs of the day came from
Woodford Green's Paul Clarke (30.50) just ahead of the
host club's Karen Sindall (31.06)
The previous evening Bree Nordin ran 34.34 to finish as
3rd Lady in Havering 90s midsummer 5 mile race in
Raphael Park.
There were also some good performances by Ilford
athletes in Wednesday's Woodford Green open graded
meeting at Ashton playing fields. Malcolm Muir improved
his pb in the 1500m to 4min 24.4 secs for 3rd spot and
then took the 3000m im 9.25.9 defeating Harlow's Rob
Dewhurst. Matt Maple led for most of the way in the
1500m but was outkicked by Havering's Tony Collins and
finished 2nd with 4.23.0. In a slowly run 400 metres
Neil Keane returning from injury clocked 61.0 secs fading
in the last 100metres.
