Ilford AC fielded a squad of 9
athletes in Sunday's Ingatestone 5 mile road race on
Sunday. Malcolm Muir ran strongly on a tough
undulating course to finish in 5th place behind race
winner Paul Dobson of Springfield Striders in a time
of 27mins 24 seconds. Track and Field Captain Matt
Maple just failed to crack the 30 minute barrier
finishing in ian excellent time of 30mins and
7seconds. Just behind, the fast improving Darren
Botterill, now training in the club's senior
group, gave veteran Martin Clarke a terrific battle
but eventually had to settle for 32minutes 42
seconds to Clarke's 32minutes 7 seconds.
The women's squad acquitted themselves well securing
4th place in the team competion. Keelie Brooks had a
really strong run leading the team home in 36
minutes 31 seconds just ahead of Pauline Tester in
37mins 9 secs. Sally Gillam chipped in with a
spritely 38mins 13 secs to complete the scorers. Pam
Jones ran 40mins 17 and debut girl Vicky 42mins 11
secs.
Ilford's
superveteran and club president-elect, John
Mckenzie ran in the Langham 10k and finished in
35th position in 41mins and .30seconds clipping
3 minutes from the time he did at the Herongate
10k event 3 weeks ago.
