Ilford Athletic Club produced some excellent
results In last weekend's Essex Track and Field Championships held at
Mayesbrook Park Dagenham.
With windy conditions not helping fast times Aaron Balogun and Joseph Perry
competed in the Under 17 100m , Aaron winning in a time of 11.50s to
complete an indoor / outdoor double and Joseph finishing 3rd with a time of
12.08s. Joseph has another year competing in this age group so the club can
look forward to greater success next year.
Daniel Grant competing in his first County
championships
ran well to make the final running 11.65s to place 7th. With a little time
to gain further experience Daniel can expect to place in the medals in the
year's to come.
Gary Smallman won the final of the the boys U17 400m and recording a
creditable 51.4s.
Matt Maple doubled up in the 800m and 1500m posting times of 2.05.44 and
4.22.15 respectively.
Malcolm Muir ran 10.49 in the 3000 steeplechase and 16.31 in the 5000m
events
Wesley Clarke competing in the Senior Men's Hammer finished just outside the
medals in fourth with 44m + effort while Craig Burrow competed in the Hammer
and gained two bronze medals in the Discus and Shot (32.32m/36.59m/11.21m).
Ilford had 3 junior girl athletes competing
in the 800metres.
First was Aimee Jones in the under 13's. Aimee had been below par due to
illness and was still feeling the effects come the race. It was a tough
qualification for the final. 3 heats, with the 1st in each heat plus the 5
fastest losers. Aimee was in the 3rd heat and although leading the race for
over 500metres tired and finished 6th in a time of 2min 46.3sec. Aimee
missed qualificaction by 2 places.
In the under 15's both Lydia Hall & Shanise Anderson competed. Again touch
qualification. 4 heats, with the 1st in each plus 4 fastest losers. Both the
girls were put in the 1st heat. They ran well and Shanise came home in 2nd
place in a time of : 2min 33.56sec. Lydia finished in 4th in time of : 2min
44.84sec. Although shanise finished in 2nd the 4th heat had most of the
fastest losers. Shanise finished 7th fastest loser and Lydia around 13th
fastest losers.
All these three girls ran well and have a lot of potential for the future
with continuous training, they can get there PB's down
