Ilford AC were in midweek action on two
consecutive evenings this. Firstly a team of 7 competed in
an informal mob match against local clubs Barking and
Havering 90 on Tuesday evening at Harrow Lodge Country
Park. The format consisted of a two man relay over a course
of just over 1 mile followed by a 3.5 mile race held on the
roads around the perimeter of the park. Ilford's Neil Crisp
was the star of the show coming home 2nd on his relay leg
and 4th overall in the main race. The busy Crisp also
doubled up for the 2nd leg of the relay due to uneven
numbers. Other club members taking part were Steve Parker,
Rohan Alexander, Dianne Crisp, Martin Clarke, Sally Gillam
and Carol Muir.
Many of the same athletes ignored their
aching limbs to turn out at Orion folllowing evening in a 5k
race held on the horserides of Epping Forest. Youngster Iain
Macdonald shone for the club working his way through the
field to finish an excellent 3rd position in 18.01. Neil
Crisp was again well to the fore and finished top veteran of
the evening in 8th place with 18.35. Dianne Crisp ran well
for the women to clock 22.21 and Gerry Trill was next home
with 23.44 just getting the better of Martin Clarke 24.05.
Chris Evans was less than a minute back finishing in 25.01.
Natalie Crisp in her debut race ran sensibly to record 26.23
finishing just ahead of Sally Gillam 26.46 who recovered
after traking a wrong turning during the latter stages of
the race. Carol Muir completed the Ilford squad in 30.45.
The race was won by Orion's Neil Moses in 16.18
