    IHUOMA'S LEAD THE WAY WITH 4 MEDALS - Report by Paul Cheal
     
    This weekend was the staging of Day 1 & 2 of the Essex Indoor track & and field championships at Lee Valley and Ilford Athletic Club was able to collect a bag of medals totalling 12 in all.
     
    Day 1:
     
    In the Junior Men 200 metres Healson Ihuoma and Gary Madigan ran in a straight final and this was very much in the balance until the final bend with Gary coming home with: 23.75sec and SILVER, whilst Healson came third: 23.87sec and BRONZE. Sam Malekout in the Senior Men ran alone race in the 200metres to record a time of: 23.81sec and GOLD, he also did the 400 metres and collected another medal SILVER in a time: 52.0sec. Melodie Ihuoma not to be out done by her big brother ran the 60 metres in the U/17 Women. In the heat: 8.39sec to qualify for the final. In the final she finished 4th: 8.26sec and PB, however in the Long Jump she went even better to leap: 4m 55cm and claim GOLD. Kofi Gibbon Jeffers U/17 although unwell ran the 60metres in heat one and reached the final where he narrowly missed out on a medal with: 7.38sec (4th) and a PB. Evan Dewa Collier also came of his sick bed to run a valiant Junior men's 400 metres to finish 4th in: 61.85sec. Jordan Akisanya competing in his first year as U/15 ran the 60 metres and finished in heat: 8.46sec and then finished 2nd in the Long Jump (SILVER) with: 4m 96cm. Elijah Collins in the Junior Men High Jump also claimed GOLD with: 1m 70cm. Lastly but earlier in the day George Hadler ran the 60m Hurdles in the U/15 Boys. In the heat he ran well to claim a PB with: 10.10sec and qualify for the final. The final was as good with not only lowering his PB yet again to 10.00sec flat he claimed BRONZE to finish 3rd just 0.1sec outside silver medal place.
     
    Day 2:
     
    Day 2 had the Ihuoma's claim more medal's. Healson Ihuoma collected 2 medals, the first came in the Junior Men Long Jump with GOLD in a distance of: 6m 26cm and a BRONZE in the 60metres sprint: 7.30sec and a PB. Simeon Stuart in the same Long Jump event was considerably below bar due to illness  but was still able to come 2nd SILVER with: 6m 11cm. Antione Green running in the 60metres after returning from the U/20's AAA's at Birmingham yesterday ran: 7.35sec in the final after qualifying in the heats to finish 4th and equal his PB. Ken Nwosu ran in the same event as an open competitor to run: 7.22sec. Nathaniel Senior competed in the Triple Jump Junior Men and was delighted to win GOLD with a sound distance of: 13m 81cm.
     
    Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon
    Meanwhile on the Club had a very quiet weekend on the Road scene with Keith Ennis the only member in action, finishing the Tunbridge Wells Half marathon on Sunday in 1:32:12 (chip time), good enough for a top 150 finish!
