Ilford long jump star reached a new level of excellence by coming 6th in
a
new personal best of 6.52m at the national under 17 championships at
Sheffield last week. Stuart said that he was "delighted to finally get
his
technique together" adding that it had "all came together at the right
time". Stuart is now only 7 centimetres behind the 24 year old record
of
6.59m but is running out of time and competitions to put it under threat
before he goes up an age group next year.
Meanwhile at the Southern Inter counties, Aaron Balogun contributed to
the
winning Essex team with an excellent run in the 200m of 22.8 seconds.
At the other end of the running scale, veteran long distance king, Peter
Spelman braved the torrential rain and the sapping mud to record an
excellent time of 3 hours, 37.20 minutes for 21st position in the
notorious
30 kilometre Springfield 'Dawdle' in Chelmsford. This was despite a
tumble
on a slippery section of bridge as well as some challenging terrain
along
the route.
The club is hoping to be out en masse next week with busy weekend of
athletics including the Sikh Sports Association Relay Marathon on Sunday
and
the bank holiday Barking 5k on Monday.
