    Muir Weathers The Storm

On a windswept and sodden Bank Holiday Monday two hardy members competed in
the ever popular Hatfield Broad Oak 10km run over a pleasant rural course.
Fresh after his 2nd place in the Essex 10m the previous weekend Ilford AC's
Malcolm Muir continued his good form wining in a time of 32:44, some 30
seconds ahead of the runner up. also competing was Abdi-karim Berleen who
was pleased with his 41:52 for 148th place. Over 600 runners finished. The
next race for the Club is the Barking and Dagenham 5m this coming Sunday.

Ilford AC had 5 athletes take part in the South of England Athletics
Championships on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th of May at the Julie Rose
    Stadium, Ashford, Kent.

On Saturday 26th Mohammed Swamad competed in the middle distance double of
800m & 1500m of the U/17 Boys. In very stiff competition Mohammed ran a
respectable time of - 2m 09.04sec but unfortunately did not qualify for the
final. In the 1500m later in the day Mohammed ran in heat 3. Just like the
800m he meet some exceptional athletes but was still able to run very close
to his PB with a time of - 4m 23.69sec, did not however qualify for final.
Simeon Stuart was very much up for it when he took part in the U/17 boys
Long Jump. It however did not go strictly to plan as his first two jumps
were no jumps. To make sure of having the full six jumps he made sure of a
legal jump in the third. After that scare he relaxed a little and was able
to jump - 6m 24cm to finish a creditable 5th place overall but was
disappointed himself as he knew that a medal was there for the taking. The
final competitor was Chris Dawe in the U/17's discus. The aim was for a PB
in what can only be described as a tough competition with the best thrower
in the country and other top throwers, so when Chris launched his first
throw a distance of - 31m 22 which was 3m 91cm better than he has ever
thrown before the delight was there all to see, he did not throw any further
but was very satisfied with the day.

Sunday saw only 2 Ilford AC athletes compete on a very wet and cold day.
Andy Carle threw in another very high and competitive javelin event for
U/17's. His first throw of just over 40m was a solid base but more was to
come. In his second throw he surpassed himself with an excellent PB of - 44m
47cm a PB of over 2m's, his final throw was not as far but still over 42m's.
Youcef Zatat competed for the U/15 Boys in the shot and discus. Slightly
below par Youcef only managed 9m's in the shot to finish 7th. This did not
put him off and in the discus he threw well with consistent throws over
27m's with his best of - 29m 54cm just 3cm short of his PB to finish 6th
    overall.

All these athletes did very well in a competition that showed high quality
al round with many of the top ranked athletes in the country competing so to
achieve PB's and finish how they did is very commendable. Next stop now is
the 2nd round of the UYKAL meeting followed by the Essex Schools
Championships at Chelmsford for some of these athletes.
