    Malekout smashes quarter mile best

Outstanding individual performances provided some cheer for a depleted  Ilford AC team in the third Southern Mens League match in Stevenage last Saturday.  Sam Malekout produced the shock of the day as he knocked over 3 seconds off his best quarter mile time, with 51.3s in a thrilling 400m,
which included junior international, Adam Daish.  He also surprised everyone with his season's best pole vault of 2.40m before beating his own 4 year old
high jump record of 1.70m to cap an exceptional day.  Fifteen year old jumps sensation, Simeon Stuart also excelled, surpassing 6 metres for the first
time in the long jump (6.05m) as well as recording a personal best in the triple jump (11.64m).  Nathaniel Senior produced a good performance of
    12.18m in the triple jump.

On the track, the team was joined by a talented new South African hurdler, Stefan Louw, who battled shoulder to shoulder in the 110m hurdles before
finally being pipped to the line in 15.8s.  The high hurdles turned out to be the most successful event for Ilford with a surprise second place for
reliable veteran, Peter Whiting in the second string.

Ilford's sprint squad is currently facing substantial injury problems, yet Erik Obot demonstrated the depth in talent with a high class 100 / 200m
double in 11.5 and 23.4 respectively.  The squad is also producing some exciting young middle distance talent with a personal best for 15 year old
Mohamed Swamed in the 800m (2.15.7) and two personal bests for Iain MacDonald, whose difficult 5000m (18.55.3) / 3000m steeplechase (12.15.4)
double was made all the harder by some punishing summer heat.

Ilford's talented throwing squad were up against high class competition and despite several season's bests, were unable to capitalise on the normal haul
of points.  Wes Clarke is nudging the 41 metre mark in the hammer with 40.97m, while Craig Burrow managed three season's bests in the hammer
    (35.72m), discus (38.07m) and shot putt (11.96m).

John MacDonald recorded leading club marks for the season in the 800m (2.02.5) and 1500m (4.21.8) against tough competition.  Malcolm Muir's
commitment to the club was demonstrated by leaping onto the track for the 1500m after driving 7 hours from his Cornish holiday.  He was again in
action 45 minutes later to join Iain MacDonald in the steeplechase. There is no doubting 59 year old Tony Nixon's commitment, as he gave 40 years to his
competitors to record 73.5s in the 400m.

The loss of key athletes paid its toll on the team as they came in last with 83.5 points, 17.5 points behind 4th place.  The club has 5 weeks to get
injured athletes back on their feet for the next match which is at home on the 8th July.

    Other performances include: Nathaniel Senior (100m - 12.9, 200 - 26.7), Malcolm Muir (1500 - 4.45.4, chase - 11.21.8), Matt Maple (400mh - 65.6,
    5000m - 17.45.1), Pete Whiting (110mh - 27.8, 400mh - 88.3, pole vault - 1.30m), Simeon Stuart (high jump - 1.20m), Sam Malekout (long jump - 5.80m,
    discus - 27.48m, javelin - 39.11m), Wesley Clarke (shot - 7.18m), Craig Burrow (javelin - 42.26m), 4x100m (47.1), 4x400m (3.50.7).

    Teams: Herts Phoenix - 124, North Devon - 114.5, Havering - 106, Windsor - 101, Ilford - 83.5.

    Hatfield Broad OK 10k

Iain Campbell won the Hatfield Broad Oak 10km in a personal best as a veteran of 32mins and.15 seconds leaving a strong Woodford Green team in his wake.. Cambell also triumphed over Essex 20 mile Champion Springfield's Gary chandler and Paralympian Noel Thatcher from Newham and Essex Beagles to rocket to 2nd spot in this season's UK Male vet 45 rankings.

Barking and Dagenham (BAD) 5 mile Race 4th June 2006

The Ilford Ladies dominated the Barking and Dagenham 5 mile women's race with Karen Sindall and Nicola Hopkinson taking 1st and 2nd places in the searing heat of Sunday morning. In what was essentially 2 laps of Central Park Dagenham Sindall immediately shot to the front to build up a massive lead. Such was the measure of the Ilford triathlete's class that only 4 men managed to beat her winning time of 30mins 17 secs over 6 mins clear of the rest of the field. Her nearest challenger Nicola Hopkinson (36.39) , had to fight for her 2nd place only managing to overcome an athlete from Havering in the latter stages.
With Sally Gillam back in 5th place and Pam Jones, a clear winner of the over 55 category, only just behind the squad would have undoubtedly taken the women's team prize had the organisers seen fit to give one.

In the men's  race Abdi Berleen led the squad home in 33.01 getting the better of Martin Clarke 33.59 still struggling to find his best form. Ian Burdin, recovering from the London Marathon, Henry Ricketts and Rohan Alexander all had strong runs and  Ray Rawlinson clearly unhappy with the heat and distance still managed to crack the 40 minute barrier. Racewalker Dave Sharpe again competed in one of his favourite events with his usual flamboyant finish seeing off  the challenge of many a runner.

Katy Rounce again found the going tough in the 800m and was unfortunately unable to complete the distance. However she made up for this in the 4x100m Relay (Katy Rounce, Nkiru Anyika, Georgia & Esme Laudat) running the 3rd leg and the team came home 4th with a time of - 61.4s.

Laura on the other hand ran both the 200m & 300m. Her time of - 29.4 in the 200m was good enough for 3rd and 47.3s in the 300m made her come home in 4th. At the end of the meeting Ilford had to settle for equal 5th place. They did themselves and the rest of Ilford AC proud today, well done to them all
