Iain Campbell won the Hatfield Broad Oak 10km in a personal best as a veteran of 32mins and.15 seconds leaving a strong Woodford Green team in his wake.. Cambell also triumphed over Essex 20 mile Champion Springfield's Gary chandler and Paralympian Noel Thatcher from Newham and Essex Beagles to rocket to 2nd spot in this season's UK Male vet 45 rankings.
Barking and Dagenham (BAD) 5 mile Race 4th June 2006
The Ilford Ladies dominated the Barking and Dagenham 5 mile women's race with Karen Sindall and Nicola Hopkinson taking 1st and 2nd places in the searing heat of Sunday morning. In what was essentially 2 laps of Central Park Dagenham Sindall immediately shot to the front to build up a massive lead. Such was the measure of the Ilford triathlete's class that only 4 men managed to beat her winning time of 30mins 17 secs over 6 mins clear of the rest of the field. Her nearest challenger Nicola Hopkinson (36.39) , had to fight for her 2nd place only managing to overcome an athlete from Havering in the latter stages.
With Sally Gillam back in 5th place and Pam Jones, a clear winner of the over 55 category, only just behind the squad would have undoubtedly taken the women's team prize had the organisers seen fit to give one.
In the men's race Abdi Berleen led the squad home in 33.01 getting the better of Martin Clarke 33.59 still struggling to find his best form. Ian Burdin, recovering from the London Marathon, Henry Ricketts and Rohan Alexander all had strong runs and Ray Rawlinson clearly unhappy with the heat and distance still managed to crack the 40 minute barrier. Racewalker Dave Sharpe again competed in one of his favourite events with his usual flamboyant finish seeing off the challenge of many a runner.

Stars of the day that shone through the brightness go to U/17 Boys, Mohammed Swamad and the U/13 Boys relay team.
Simeon Stuart continues his impressive streak by landing a PB in the 100m with a time of - 12.2s shaving 0.5s of his previous best. He also jumped well in both the Long & Triple Jump gaining 1st places in both with - 5m 78 for Long Jump & 12m 01cm for the Triple. Ozi Nzeako was not to be out done and was in fine form collecting no less than 3 PB's in his 3 events. He ran 12.4s for the 100m for 3rd, 25.3s for the 200m - 5th & jumped 1cm less than Simeon in the Triple Jump for 1st in B-String.
In the U/15 Boys Mohammed Swamad ran an even faster time than the previous best to come home 2nd in the 800m with - 2m 13.7s, he also jumped - 4m 40 in the long jump for 2nd. Liam Leddy ran well in the 800m to come home 1st in B-String with a time of - 2m 35.8s. Jerrell jumped alongside Mohammed to record a distance of - 4m 70 for 3rd. In the 100m he came 2nd in a new PB time of - 12.8s and the 200m was even better claiming 1st in a quite superb time of - 25.8s which was 0.7s of his previous best. Sam Burgues competing for the first time this year was very helpful in collecting points for the club and along the way gaining a 2 PB's. He came 5th in the 200m B-String with - 31.3s just outside his PB, ran a time of - 6m 36.5 for 3rd and a PB along with clearing a height of - 1m 25 for 4th in the high jump another PB. His friend Sam Courtney making his Debut ran the 400m in - 97.5 for 6th and the 1500m in - 8m 46.1 for 2nd. Aaron Akisanya was also impressive in the 100m complimenting Jerrell in the B-String running a new PB of - 12.9s and he threw - 19m 17 in the discus. In the throws Andrew Townsend came 4th in the B-String Shot with - 5m 06cm whilst Robert Legon came 4th in A-String with - 8m 57. Rob and Chris Dawe took part in a new event for them and as a matter of fact Ilford Juniors which hadn't been done for some time and that was the Hammer. Although only having a couple of coaching lessons Chris was able to throw it - 18m 25 for 2nd and Rob - 15m 74 for 1st B-String. Chris also did the discus coming 2nd with a distance of - 23m 57. Andy Carle competed in the Javelin and finished 2nd with - 32m 89cm. They finished of with a 4x100m (Mohammed, Liam, Jerrell & Aaron) with a 6th place in a time of - 54.3s.
The U/13 Boys saw 6 athletes take part. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake was again in fine form. He collected a PB in the 100m coming home 2nd in a time of - 13.1s. He also jumped well in long jump again finishing 1st with - 4m 62 but had a no-jump measured by the officials of 4m 97 so it wont be long until he gets to the magic 5m mark. In the 200m he also finished 2nd with - 27.7s. Dylan Broadley was the B-String in both the 100m & 200m coming 2nd in the 100m with - 14.5s and 3rd in the 200m with - 30.1s. The other event was a new experience for him which he did well in, finishing 2nd in the 75m Hurdles with - 15.8s. Alex Legon ran a PB in the 800m with a time of - 2m 47.2s and putt a distance of - 5m 82cm in the shot for 4th. Rohan Anderson was alongside Alex and putt 5m 02 for 2nd. Alex Richards ran well in the 1500m to finish 2nd in a time of - 5m 10.1s which means his fitness is coming back to him and his time of under 5 mins will be there again soon. Joshua Daly was competing for the 1st time today and jumped very well in the long jump for 1st in the B-String with - 4m 38. He then went on to compete in the 4x100m CLUB RECORD team (Nethaneel, Dylan, Joshua & Alex.L). In what was a thrilling race Ilford piped VPTH to the line with a time of - 56.4s CR.
U/13 Girls had 8 athletes competing for Ilford with 2 debutees. Georgia Laudat ran extremely well in the 75m to record a PB with 10.9s and 3rd, whilst also doing the 70m Hurdles coming 4th with - 15.7s. Her younger sister competing for the first time Esme Laudat did herself proud running the 75m in a time of - 12.5s for 5th and the shot putt of 4m 16 was good enough for 5th as well. Nkiru Anyika ran well in the 150m for a time of - 22.5s and 5th whilst jumping a PB in the long jump by 1cm to - 3m 49cm. The other debutant was Mika Marston. She also clocked - 22.5s for the 150m for - 2nd and putt - 4m 46 for 5th in the shot. Clare Rodway claimed 2 PB's in the both of her events, clearing - 1m 10 in the high jump for 3rd and jumped an impressive - 3m 15 in the long jump. Sam's sister Cerys Burgues took part in the 800m coming home in a time of - 3m 44.1 for 5th whilst looking to have the making of some kind of technique in the 70m Hurdles which was a totally new discipline for her finishing 3rd in a time of - 18.7s. Katy Rounce again found the going tough in the 800m and was unfortunately unable to complete the distance. However she made up for this in the 4x100m Relay (Katy Rounce, Nkiru Anyika, Georgia & Esme Laudat) running the 3rd leg and the team came home 4th with a time of - 61.4s.
Charlie Clements and Charlotte Deacon were the stars of the U/15 Girls. Charlie extended her CLUB RECORD distance in the javelin to a distance of - 21m 56 finishing 2nd and came 3rd in the discus with - 18m 56. Charlotte Deacon continues her good form following her 5th place in the recent South of England Track & Field Champs with a putt of - 8m 63 for 1st in the shot. Her distance of 16m 45 for the discus earnt her 1st as well. Aimee Jones ran the 800m in a time of 2m 43.5 for 2nd, ran the 75m Hurdles in a time of - 15.9 for 6th and recorded a PB in the long jump with a leap of - 4m 10 for 2nd. Lydia Hall ran well in the 1500m to claim 1st in a time of - 5m 36s whilst coming 2nd in the high jump on count back with - 1m 35. The other competitor was debutant Sarah Kelly. Although she has run for Ilford in x-country she hasn't competed on the track before. Sarah ran a solid race in the 800m finishing in a time of - 3m 13.0 for 2nd and came 5th in the long jump with - 1m 82cm.
Lastly is the U/17 Girls. Sarah Kigozi & Laura Townsend were the only representatives for Ilford this time. Sarah ran well in the 200m for a 3rd with - 27.8s and jumped a distance of - 4m 18cm in the long jump for - 4th. Unfortunately due to Sarah running out of her lane in the 100m she was disqualified. Laura on the other hand ran both the 200m & 300m. Her time of - 29.4 in the 200m was good enough for 3rd and 47.3s in the 300m made her come home in 4th. She rounded her events of with a putt of - 5m 99cm in the shot for 4th place.
At the end of the meeting Ilford had to settle for equal 5th place. However there were some fine performances today, some gutsy and determined performances coupled with some very inexperienced youngsters taking centre stage for the first time. They did themselves and the rest of Ilford AC proud today, well done to them all
