Micky

while
Steve
defied
injury
(which
had
forced
him
to

from
the

to
clock
4.24
while
Dennis
bettered
his
London
effort
by
recording
4.50.
Saturday
saw
another
excellent
performance
by
Karen
Sindall
in
the
Blenheim
triathlon.
Set
against
the
beautiful
backdrop
of
the
estate
of
Blenheim
Palace
Karen
emerged
from
the
750m
open
water
lake
swim
contesting
the
lead
in a
time
of
10.38.
Her
old
adversary
Henrietta
Freeman
returning
to
serious
competition
after
a 2
year
break
set
the
pace
on
tthe
bike
establishing
a 30
second
gap
on
the
1st
of
3
tough
hilly
laps.
With
the
weather
deteriorating
Karen
started
to
suffer
in
the
wind
and
cold
but
hung
on
bravely
in
the
chasing
group.
The
increasingly
wet
and
slippery
conditions
put
paid
to
the
challenge
of
pre
race
favourite
who
crashed
just
i
front
of
Karen
forcing
her
ro
take
evasive
action.
By
the

Cambridge
Tri

Rosie
Clarke
had
come
through
the
pack
with
a
superb
ride
and
both
Freeman
and
herself
entered

1
minute
ahead
of
Sophie
Whitworth
with
Karen
just
behind
in
4th
place
clocking
37.19
for
the
10.3
mile
bike
course.
Karen
was
then
able
to
use
her
improved
running
form
to
quickly
catch
Whitworth
quickly
before
easily
moving
away
on
the
2
laps.
Unfortunately
the
leaders
had
too
big
a
gap over
the
5.2k
course
for
Karen
to
make
any
impression
as
she
settled
for
a
comfortable
but
well
earned
3rd
position
in a
time
of
21.39.

out
an

of

in

as
Ilford's
throwers
dominated
the

Southern

match
on a
wet

windy
day
at
the
home
track
at
Cricklefields.
There
was
also
a
welcome
return
for
two
quarter

junior
star,
Gary
Smallman,
who
came
second
in
his
flat
400m
in
50.9
and
a
first
place
for
veteran
ace,
Wayne
Hick
who
won
his
hurdles
race
in
63.1.
The
throwers
only
dropped
five
points
during
the
day,
with
wins
and
seasons
best
for
Sol
Anwar
in
the
shot
(13.22m)
and
Wesley
Clarke
in
the
hammer
(40.52m)
and
an
outstanding
throw
by
Sam
Malekout
of
40.38m
which
deserved
more
than
3rd
place
in
the
B
string.
There
was
also
a
welcome
return
for
outstanding
triple
jumper,
Richard
(Jide)
Olatunji,
who
took
a
break
from
his
studies
to
reach
12.14m
for
2nd
place.
Nathaniel
Senior's
continues
to
show
great
class
in
the
A
string
triple
jump
with
a
leap
of
12.46m
which
also
gave
him
a
2nd
place.
Elsewhere
in
the
jumps,
debutant,
Gull-Hassen
Ditta,
achieved
an
excellent
1st
place
high
jump
with
1.60m
in
the
B
string.
Strong
winds
did
not
suit
the
runners
but
despite
a
late
scare
by a
determined
Dartford
runner,
Malcolm
Muir
achieved
his
first
League
victory
in
the
5000m
with
16:22.7.
Some
early
barging
in
the
pack
had
caused
Malcolm
to
make
an
early
break
and
gain
60m
on
the
rest
and
despite
being
caught
later
on,
Muir
had
enough
left
to
make
a
decisive
last
lap
burst
to
win.
Half
miler
Mohamed
Swamed
belied
his
age
and
lack
of
experience
by
getting
a
personal
best
in
strong
winds
in
the
800m
in
2:19.6.
Seasons
bests
were
also
achieved
by
Erik
Obot
(11.9)
in
the
100m,
Sam
Malekout
(24.7)
in
the
200m
and
Bakr
Al-Akku
(55.6)
in
the
400m.
John
MacDonald's
grit
in
last
lap
pile
ups
is
becoming
his
trademark,
although
he
was
not
able
to
overcome
strong
opposition
with
his
800m
(2:05.7)
and
1500m
(4:26.0).
Also
providing
valuable
contributions
were
Salim
Patel
(12.6
in
the
100m
and
24.3
in
the
200m),
Darren
Bottrill
(4:58.4
in
the
1500m)
and
Simeon
Stuart
(5.42
in
the
long
jump).
Overall,
Ilford
were
unable
to
close
a
narrow
gap
at
halfway
and
ultimately
finished
4th.
The
next
match
will
be
on
the
3rd
June
at
Stevenage.
Other
performances
included:
Malc
Muir
(10.51.0

SWL - Cricklefields
Held jointly with the men's SML the SWL took place a cold and miserable afternoon. Ilford had only a small squad of 8 athletes, 1 senior, 1 u/20 and 6 juniors with sisters Simran & Sandeep Johal making their club Debut.
The star of the show goes to Jessica Manning in the u/20's. On a day that was more suited to staying indoor's, Jessica produced 2 excellent performances which earnt her 2 PB's. First was a big leap of - 5m 13 in the long jump to surpass her previous best by over 20cm's. In the 200m she was again in good form finishing in - 26.6s to smash her best, she finished of with a solid throw in the Javelin with - 25m 06cm.
The only senior saw Clare Thake compete in no less than 5 events. She can home 2nd in the 100m with - 14.9s, and doubled up with the 200m with - 31.0s. Clare then went on to do the 800m and run a time of - 3min 08s. Her field event were her final two events, the triple jump was a leap of - 7m 86cm and a shot putt of - 5m 46cm.
Aimee Jones in the juniors was there star as she continues to improve her time in the 200m, she seems to be getting faster every time. The time of - 29.6s was 0.5s faster than her best to finish 1st. Lydia Hall did well and jumped to a height of - 1m 35cm to claim 1st in the high jump. To help her out debutant Simran Johal jumped also well with a clearance of - 1m 20 for 2nd place. Her sister Sandeep did the long jump and landed with a distance of - 2m 25cm for 4th. Charlotte Deacon competed in 2 events the shot putt and discus. In the shot she putt a respectable distance of - 8m 37 for 1st and threw - 15m 01cm in the discus for 3rd. Last of the eight was Sarah Kigozi, she was in good form and come home 1st in the 100m with a time of - 13.7s, she then did the long jump and came 3rd with a distance of - 4m 20cm. Her last event was the Javelin and although at time very unorthodox in her throwing to say the least was able to record a distance of - 12m 29cm for 3rd.
