    Essex Road Relays Chelmsford

Ilford AC women's squad fielded 7athletes in Sunday's Essex AAA's Road relays at Melbourne Park Chelmsford. On a tough 3.5 mile loop Lyndsey Barker made a welcome return to competition clocking 26.20 on the first leg. Nicola Hopkinson took over on leg 2 posting a very strong 25.46. Bree Nordin anchored the team with an impressive 24.31.
in the "B" team it was good to see Sharon Honey competing in Ilford colours again leading off with a 27.20. Sally Gillam was only slightly slower in 27.58 handing over to captain Keelie Brooks who was competing wearing a neck collar as a result of a recent skiing incident but nevertheless clocked an impressive 26.22. Pam Jones ran the lead off for the 'C' team clocking 29.38.

A makeshift men's squad consisting of Maloclm Muir (19.23) John MacDonald (21.07), Matt Maple (21.02) and Martin Clarke (23.59) competed well and managed a creditable 15th place.

British Masters XC Champs - Bournemouth

Ilford AC's Iain Campbell and John Batchelor  narrowly missed out on medals when both took 4th place in their respective age groups when competing in Sundays British Masters Cross Country Championships. The race was held over a fast 2 lap course held in King's Park Bournemouth, mainly dry and flat but with two wicked humps. Campbell was particularly unlucky with only 15 seconds covering the leading quartet including Mark Hargreaves (Bournemouth), Andy Wetherill (Redhill) and Mark Aspinall (Clayton-Le-Moors) with Campbell missing out on 3rd by a mere 2 seconds. Batchelor was similarly disappointed with the 3 big guns of Steve James (Southport), Walter Ryder ((Morpeth), and Fred Gibbs(Bingley) taking the major honours.
