Press Report
Ilford AC continued their
cross country season without
many established stars due
to injury and
unavailability. The third
Essex League fixture was
held over the very demanding
course at Basildon’s
Gloucester Park on Saturday.
Cross Country Captain
Malcolm Muir managed 19th
position despite feeling
unwell all week and not
being able to train United
States import and debutante
Andy Whitney coped well with
the hills and had a fine run
in 68th position.
Darren Bottrill continues to
improve with a solid 80th
place. Three of the club’s
golden oldies, Martin Clarke
,92nd, John
Mackenzie, 98th
and John Platt,108th
completed the scorers for
the men’s squad.
Other finishers were Henry
Ricketts ,111h,
Duncan Turner 112th,
Graham Williams 120th
and Jim McNamee making his
first outing of the season
143rd.
The club’s women have the
nucleus of a very strong
squad with Breege Nordin,17th,
Keelie Brooks 20th,
and Nicola Hopkinson 21st,
all battling it out for
supremacy. When the likes of
Karen Sindall and Lyndsay
Barker return to full
fitness Ilford should easily
improve on their 6th
position and be a real force
within the county. Pam Jones
42nd and Sally
Gillam 44th also
competed well.

saw a debut by Alex Legon in

Whitfield made her first
appearance of the season
finishing 26th in 22.19 and
Lydia Hall coming back from
injury finished in a
credible time of 23.52 in
29th. The final runner was
