         Southend 10k Classic

    Ilford AC had a massive presence in the 21st running of the popular Southend 10k Classic Road Race held along the traffic free seafront on Sunday morning. The race attracted nearly two thousand runners in near perfect conditions for running. Former winner Iain Campbell led the men's team home with a fine run and his time of 32mins and 56 seconds was good enough to win the male veteran prize earning him 9th position overall. 
     
    Malcolm Muir never at home on this mundane and mentally tough strength sapping out and back loop managed 34mins and 12 seconds. However star of the show was the club's partially sighted athlete Ashley Pearce who blitzed round in r 35 minutes 50 seconds to record an excellent personal best. Matt Maple completed the team scorers with 37mins and 3 secs.

    Nearly 30 athletes from the Cricklefields based club also made the trip South with many ending up with personal bests. Worthy of note was Nicola Hopkinson's  effort  who was 1st Ilford lady home in a pb of 43 minutes and 1 second ahead of Breege Nordin nearly 1 minute behind.     Southend 3k Junior Run

    In the accompanying 3k junior run Ilford Ac were well represented through the age groups. On a slightly under distance flat course the club's most successful runner was 11 year old Alex Richards who ran 8mins 54 secs coming 3rd in his age group. Other runners and times were as follows:-
