    KIRBY POWERS HOME WITH EASE - Report by Paul Cheal
     
    On a lovely afternoon, Ilford AC took their youngsters to a picturesque St Albans for Round 4 of the UKYAL Meeting. Again although a very small squad they all did very well with some fine performances.
     
    Leading the way was Jordan Kirby in the U/17 Men. Coming off his selection for the English Schools in July he effortlessly went about his business in the track sprints with 1st's all the way. 200m: 23.4sec, 100m: 11.5sec & 53.2sec for the 400m. Kofi Gibbon Jeffers slightly changed his events and still performed well with: 5m 17cm for the Long Jump, 16.5sec for 100m Hurdles and a fine: 1m 73cm for the High Jump which is if confirmed a PB. Omar Rashid was the other U/17 running the middle distance double and came away with a PB in the 800m: 2m 27.1sec, 1500m: 5m 28sec and the Long Jump: 4m 26.
     
    The U/15 Boys had George Hadler claim a PB in the 200m: 25.4sec, solid 80m Hurdles: 12.4sec and a 100m: 13.5sec. Taschan Peart: 2m 46.2sec in the 800m, 75.2sec for 400m and the Javelin, whilst Thomas King: 3m 63cm for the Long Jump but due to injury unable to do the 1500m but did a standing throw in the Javelin. Jordan Akisanya did the Long Jump: 4m 98cm and the 100m: 13.5sec.
     
    U/13 Boys had a team of 4 lead by Harry Kyriacou who showed he is improving all the time with: 29.3sec in the 200m, 8m 32cm with the Shot and 14.6sec for the 100m. Shanjay Sivakumaran did the High Jump: 1m 15cm, the 1500m: 5m 32.3sec and as a complete novice on the 75m Hurdles showed promise for times to come with: 16.6sec. Last was Raeis Mer competing for the first time for Ilford ran a very impressive 800m leading all the way and finishing with: 2m 31.5sec, a High Jump: 1m 25cm and a 100m: 14.7sec.
     
    U/13 Girls only had 1 competitor and that was Ellie Atkinson, she did: 2m 58.6sec for the 800m, 2m 79cm for the Long Jump and 13.1sec for the 75m's. Bethany Hall was like Ellie the only U/15 Girl and still performed well with: 2m 85cm for the Long Jump, 5m 20.9sec for the 1500m and another event. In the U/17 Women Victoria Onyeka is going from strength to strength without doubt claiming a PB in the Hammer with: 20m 31cm but she surpassed that with an outstanding 1st round throw in the discus with a near 6m PB of: 32m 47cm putting her well up on the Power 10 leader board and also the Shot Putt: 7m 03cm. Rochelle Rhodes did the Long and Triple Jump with: 4m 28cm and 10m 28cm respectively and the High Jump: 1m 45cm, whilst Clare Rodway ran the 300m Hurdles: 56.7sec and Shot Putt.
     
    All in all WELL DONE to all those who took part with individual performances to be proud off. All will be concluded now with the last round of the UKYAL meeting on July 19th at HOME.
