• Press Report 12th April 2009

Ilford AC junior athletes have been busy recently competing in Spring warm up meetings as a prelude to the start of the Track and Filed season.

Last weekend saw a hot sunny spring day at Havering's Mayesbrook Park where there were  some good performances especially from Nadi Gervais in the U-11G competing in the 100m coming 1st in 14.2 s followed closely by George Hadler competing in 2 events for the 1st time. In the 80m hurdles Hadler finished in 1st place in 13.1s and in the 400m was 2nd in 59.5s. Ellie Atkinson in her 2nd meeting for Ilford  this time competed in 2 completely different events from last week doing the 70m hurdles in 17.8s and the 200m in 33.7s. Laura Swords making her Ilford debut competed in the 1500m finishing in 5m 56.0s. Finally Thomas King competed in the 1500m and the Javelin despite suffering from a heel injury and finished with a time of 5m 31.9s and a distance of 16.76m.

Hadler was back in action at Chelmsford this Saturday  when he continued  his fine form in the under 15 boys firstly in the 200m smashing his pb with a time of 25.9s for 3rd overall and less then 30 minutes later ran the 400m breaking his pb to finish 4th overall in a time of 58.7s. The other Ilford athlete was Laura Swords in the U-15 Girls where she competed in the 1500m in the pouring rain coming home in a time of 6m 05.0s.

Meanwhile on the roads many Ilford  athletes have been competing at distance before beginning there taper for the London Marathon on the 26th April. Ian Burdin ran the the Kingston Breakfast 16, a really good event despite the early start of 8.25am with  the course passing along the Thames and takings in Hampton court palace. Burdin was pleased with his clocking of 1hr 52m and 56secs and he goes into London feeling really good and injury free.

Elsewhere Rohan Alexander represented the club in very hot conditions at the Oakley 20 mile race. He got round in 2.39.14 which he too was pleased with as he aims for a sub 3:30 Marathon time later this month.

Good Friday witnessed a comeback gathering momentum as Terry Knightley  was the Sole Ilford AC runner at the Crown
To Crown 5K Multi-Terrain Race around the Country Paths and Bridleways of
    Langdon Hills in Basildon.

Knightley finished 6th (Out of about 200 plus runners) and 2nd MV40 in a time of 18
    Minutes and 53 Seconds.

Crispian Bloomfield of Billericay was the overall winner.
