WALKER IN THE RUNNING Ilford AC’s former Scottish International athlete STUART BENNETT chose race walking as his mode of progression when appearing in the high profile 5 Miles run around Stratford’s Olympic Park on a hot Sunday. Bennett was ahead of many runners as he walked to fill 7,721st position in 51 minutes & 31 seconds. Competitors enjoyed the kudos of finishing on the famous Olympic Stadium track! SEQUENCE MAINTAINED Ilford’s inform FRANCISCO REIS was a convincing victor in Monday evening’s Veterans 2,000 metres race walk at the delightfully situated Hemel Hempstead track. Off to a fast start in hot conditions, rivals were left floundering by the end of the opening circuit as he pressed-on the win in 9 minutes and 19 seconds. Since making a comeback 4 years ago, Reis has raced many times in this long-established Series of Veterans 2,000 metres events and has yet to be beaten! On Sunday over 3 laps in the blistering hot York sunshine, STEVE ALLEN raced the annual Postman’s-in-Uniform 10 Kilometres. NEWMAN HILLY 5 – 3RD JULY 2013 On a warm muggy Wednesday evening Ilford AC staged the annual Newman Hilly 5 race on the trials of Hainault, which commemorates the life of Newman Sargent, an Ilford AC member, who died tragically young of cancer in 2002. The club did him proud providing both individual winners and taking both team prizes. The race, which was also the 4th leg of this summers East London fiVe Interclub Series (ELvIS),m was won in fine style by Ilford’s Malcolm Muir in 27m 26s after a close battle with Billericay’s Crispian Bloomfield.
