DOUBLE WIN FOR ILFORD AC WALKERS The Southern Area 20 Kilometres’ race walking championships were held around 12 flat twisting circuits of a public park in Enfield on a sunny but blustery Saturday afternoon. It was a remarkable triumph for FRANCISCO REIS who, for a second successive Saturday afternoon opened up a huge lead right from the off. He was never headed and soon after midway achieved a rare feat of lapping the entire field. Reis completed his journey in 1 hour 48 minutes and 47 seconds to win the Area Championship, with Barnet AC’s Steve Allen 2nd in 1.59.22. FOUR IN A ROW – AND IT’S GETS BETTER! Ilford AC sent a strong squad to the annual Moulton 5 Miles Walk on a testing “out-and-back” in rural Suffolk countryside north east of Newmarket. On a cool overcast Saturday, perfect for athletics, it was Ilford’s Francisco Reis who took the race by storm sprinting away from all rivals to enjoy a big advantage by the turn. The gap was needed as a quality athlete was after him in former Welsh Senior Champion Mark Williams of Tamworth AC, one noted for producing his best work over the closing stages of races. Press Report - Dagenham 88 5k - Elvis Leg1

A massive turnout of 29 runners from Ilford Athletic club stormed the trails of Eastbrook End Country Park on Wednesday evening over a 5k course comprising 3 laps set by host club Dagenham 88 Runners. At least I counted 29 going out but only 27 came back – poor ol’ Frank got shot down, and Kevin W was still awaiting his Ilford wings. Despite a titanic dogfight with local rivals East London Runners in both the mens and women’s races, it was the Ilford Club who eventually emerged victorious. Even the cunningly disguised plan hatched by the Muir siblings, Malcolm and Carol, to gain the women’s team some extra points proved unnecessary as “The Ilford” dominated the skies in the …Read More
